Despite what is displayed on this entry, 0 A.D. is not a game that got released in 2010. This game has been in development since 2000, at the time the plan was to develop it in the Age of Empires 2 engine, as a total conversion mod. The developers quickly felt limited by this engine, and this became a stand-alone game project using an in-house engine. In 2009 the source code of the engine and game (including the art, not only the engine code) got released under an open-source licence, and the development had been ongoing ever since, with the most recent release (at the time of writing this) being the Alpha 27 published on 2025-01-30. If you don’t know what open-source is about, you can see that as the most long-lived "early access" game distributed for free, developed by a team of volunteers and without looking for any kind of profit. Despite the game not being complete yet — it lacks a single player campaign with a story — it is already on the level of many commercial games with regards to single player skirmishes and multiplayer.

Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem
Eternal Darkness: Sanity's RequiemEternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem is a psychological horror action adventure, released in 2002 by Nintendo for the Gamecube. It tells the stories of twelve characters that span across the world and two millennia who have to deal with ancient forces of evil which have been trying to manifest themselves in our world. Chapters take place in Ancient Rome, Persia, the Middle East, and modern-day Rhode Island. Throughout the game, the protagonists will have access to several weapons appropriate for their era, from bastard sword & gladius to flintlock pistol and shotgun. The game features an involved Magic system, which allows different spells to be created through the combination of runes. These spells can attack enemies, dispel illusions, and heal both the body and items. Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem also has a unique feature called Sanity. If an enemy sees a character, their Sanity meter drops. When Sanity gets low, hallucinations begin to plague the character. Walls bleed, voices whisper from nowhere, the camera gets disoriented. Sanity can be restored by dealing a finishing move on a dying enemy, or with spells or some items.

Galaxy Robo
Galaxy RoboGalaxy Robo is a sci-fi strategy game from Copya System and Imagineer. The player directs a group of mech pilots, each riding distinctive bi-pedal suits and other vehicles. The game is structurally similar to Fire Emblem: the player moves all their units for their turn, either fighting enemy units or performing other tasks, and then control switches to the opponent. When two units meet in combat, a cutaway cutscene shows the aggressor landing (or missing) a hit, and the unit statistics underneath tell the player how much damage was caused. The game was a Japanese exclusive. It was one of a handful of games to use the SNES Mouse peripheral.
