Blade

Blade (1997)

by Alive Mediasoft
Genres:Role-playing (RPG), Adventure
Themes:Fantasy, Horror
Game modes:Single player
Story:For centuries the essence of Quaal, once a powerful and terrible demon, has been trapped inside the sword that once killed him. After a volcanic eruption, however, the blade is stolen by one of Quaal's dark servants intent upon reviving their lord. Four heroes are called upon to retrieve the blade before it's too late. Blade is a turn-based role playing game played from an isometric perspective. However its control scheme is more similar to turn-based tactical games of the time like X-COM, in that each turn is strictly divided into a player phase and an enemy phase, and each character has a limited amount of action points per turn. There is no character creation but the four heroes can be picked from a range of eight, each of a particular class. There is a form of economy as the party starts with a limited sum of gold which can be deposited in a bank and used to purchase equipment. Combat is extremely simplistic, as the player only selects the monster that will be automatically attacked if within range.Show more

Phantasie II
Phantasie IIIn 1986, SSI published the next part of the series, Phantasie II. Again, the Dark Lord Nikademus was the nemesis. This time Nikademus had fashioned an evil orb, and with it he cast a curse on a beautiful island named Ferronrah and enslaved its people. The player's mission was to find and destroy the orb. Phantasie II used the same graphics and fighting as the original Phantasie game, with one improvement to combat: the ability of any character class to target any enemy rank with a thrown rock. There were improvements in the complexity of quests, but little was done to innovate the series. One option which endeared many veterans was the ability to transfer characters from Phantasie I to this sequel. The manual included in Phantasie II was identical to the one included with Phantasie, plus a small card explaining the differences. Computer Gaming World noted this was advantageous in terms of how players of the original would have an easier time getting into the game, but disadvantageous as to some particularly tedious mechanisms of both games, particularly "the infamous Distribution and Selling rigamarole." The review continued to note that characters imported from the original have their equipment removed as well as most of their gold and experience, affording only a slight head start over newly created characters.[

Trace Memory
Trace MemoryThe events of the game take place on the fictional Blood Edward Island. The game's protagonist, Ashley Mizuki Robbins, is the daughter of Richard and Sayoko Robbins, researchers of human memory. After her parents mysteriously went missing in 1994, they were presumed dead.Consequently, Ashley was raised by her father's younger sister, Jessica Robbins, in the suburbs of Seattle. Eleven years later, two days before her fourteenth birthday, Ashley receives a package from her father containing a birthday card and a device called a DAS. The DAS, programmed to respond only to Ashley's biometrics, contains a message from her father, claiming that he is waiting for her on Blood Edward Island. Assuming control of Ashley Robbins, players navigate through 3D environments and attempt to solve puzzles. During movement, the touchscreen displays an aerial view of Ashley and her surroundings. The player can move Ashley using a point and click system, dragging the stylus across the screen, or using the D-pad. The top screen shows pre-rendered images of the player's current location. To solve puzzles encountered in the game, the player must use the touchscreen, or other DS capabilities, such as the DS microphone.
