Darkspore

Darkspore (2011)

by Maxis, Electronic Arts
Genres:Role-playing (RPG), Hack and slash/Beat 'em up
Themes:Action, Science fiction
Game modes:Single player, Multiplayer
Story:Darkspore was a video game that borrowed creature editing technology from Spore. It was described as "a fast-paced, science fiction action-role-playing game in which the player battled across alien worlds to save the galaxy from the mutated forces of Darkspore". In addition to the creature editor, the game featured a unique squad-based mechanic, various multiplayer options, and a player versus player arena. The game was released in North America on April 26, 2011 for Microsoft Windows, and in Europe on April 28, 2011. EA seemingly has removed the store page of Darkspore from Steam, meaning any attempt to purchase it through Steam cannot be made. The game was later relisted with EA saying that they would continue to support for the game. Those who have purchased it prior to the page's removal still have the game and could play it until the servers were shut down permanently on March 1, 2016. The game is currently unplayable due to its DRM scheme requiring a connection.Show more

To tell you the truth, I never got the chance to play this. It was because my computer was UBER outdated and couldn't play the demo for it. But I always had this game at the back of my head. It would be great to make this have a offline option if GOG can bring it back, for people like me who missed out on it, and for the people who miss this game. I am a mega fan of Spore, so being able to play this one will be a treat and a half!

I loved this game as a kid. Might not be the best ARPG, but it's one with some really interesting mechanics, such as the three hero party with synergistic squad abilities and the catalyst system; and the setting itself being alien science-fantasy, a more mature version of Spore, which I'm always a sucker for. If I could vote for this game enough to have it greenlit, I would.

Didn't have more than maybe a couple hours to play this right before it got shut down, but I still have my CD copy just sitting in my room and I'd love to give it a chance again. The game was very unique for an ARPG, made by the folks who developed Spore and The Sims.

This for me is the perfect addition for a program that is all about game preservation, considering how the DRM of this game has made it inaccessible for some time now, Darkspore is a unique game with an interesting gameplay aspect to it with it's monster creator, it's a game that deserves a second chance at life

Might not been the flashiest, fanciest game out there but I played a shitload of it. The game became unplayable when they killed the servers, because the always-online DRM failed to connect. If GOG could somehow bring this game back, I'd repurchase it in a heartbeat.

I've never got to play this game but I absolutely loved SPORE. When I was a kid I drooled over the game but I wasn't ever able to buy it because I couldn't pay stuff online. I would love to experience it, with all its flaws and imperfections as many have stated, to fulfill one of my childhood wishes and dwell into the spooky spooks dark side of SPORE

Darkspore is a game that is slowly being lost to time, falling into obscurity and with less chances of getting preserved, this is what I feel makes it the right candidate for this program, SPORE already being here also makes me hope that GOG can become the means of which this game is resurrected and properly preserved, it had a great score, cool customization and fun combat I would buy it in a heartbeat if it came back here

I always wanted to play this game, but at the time it was new, I didn’t have a job, and I couldn’t afford it. When I finally had the means, I discovered that the servers had been shut down. Unfortunately, the game Darkspore, developed by Maxis and published by Electronic Arts, is no longer playable today. Released in 2011, Darkspore required a constant internet connection due to its DRM system. On March 1, 2016, the game’s online servers were permanently shut down, making it inaccessible ever since. I always wanted to experience an ARPG with the possibility of physically modifying your characters with the traits of defeated enemies.

Drakengard
DrakengardDrakengard follows the story of a kingdomless prince named Caim who fights for the Union against the Empire. Under the Union's protection are the Hierarchs and the Goddess, currently Caim's sister Furiae, who is a human manifestation of one of the four seals that protect the world from being broken. As the game begins, Cain is fatally wounded in a battle with the Empire. Encountering a captured Red Dragon who is also near death, Caim makes a fateful choice. In exchange for both their lives, the Red Dragon and Caim will enter a pact. This pact will forever chain their lives to one another and link their souls, at the cost of something irreplaceable. Recharged with the fires of a Dragon, Caim's vengeance burns over the enemy... The player controls Caim on his quest. The game is separated into three distinct modes: Aerial combat, Ground combat and Event Combat. In Aerial Combat, Caim rides dragonback against a variety of airborne foes breathing fireballs (strong single shots and weaker multiple lock-on shots). The Dragon is agile and is able to evade incoming threats, turning around completely in a moment. In Ground combat, the game is shown in 3rd person though usually large, open areas. Controlling Caim, his primary ability is the use of a variety of weapons found on the battlefield. These are leveled up through continued usage, and specifically through the killing of individual enemies. Though magic (determined by weapon choice), timed attacks and evasion, Caim breaks through enemy armies. Characters recruited as allies by Caim can also be summoned during battles, steadily losing health until control is returned to Caim. In ground combat, Caim may also call forth his Dragon to ride and strafe enemies from the air. The Dragon's movements are generally the same as in aerial combat but more limited and less agile. Event combat is similar to Ground combat, but shown isometrically, restricted to a single weapon and without the aid of a dragon. It is used mainly to tell story sequences. Levels that have been visited before might become "Expedition Missions" which are optional and contain new objectives, enemies and weapons. Additionally, any level previously played in the storyline may be revisited at any time. Depending on Caim's choices (and prerequisites for those choices), there are five different endings to Drakengard.

Parasite Eve II
Parasite Eve IIParasite Eve II is an action role-playing survival horror video game released exclusively for the PlayStation. The game was developed by Square and published in Japan in 1999 and in both North America and, unlike the previous game, in PAL regions in 2000. It is the sequel to Parasite Eve and the second game in the series of the same name. Parasite Eve II is set several years after the events in the original game. The protagonist from the first game, Aya Brea, also features in this game as the playable character. She becomes involved with another outbreak of Mitochondrial creatures. Gameplay diverges from the previous game: battles take place in real time and the area of action is less restrictive. The approach is more typical of traditional survival horror games, although some role-playing elements are retained.
