Fez. Ah, Fez. Possibly the progenitor of the Clever Indie Game, where it does things to get into your mind, or plays clever tricks to reveal a deeper depth.
At first blush, it appears to be a simple 2D platformer where death is but a minor inconvenience. Then the hypercube arrives.
Now yes, at times Fez could be completely full of itself. Some of the puzzles are very much so "think like the developer." Yes, the developers themselves were a bit unprepared for the reception of some of the things they said. Ultimately, it's trifling and silly compared to what has since transpired.
I can only hope that one day, Fez ][ does actually happen. But in the meantime, what a nice void to explore, eh?
