Fractal Block World is one of my favorite games and I've barely even scratched the surface in my playthrough: I'm in the oak tree. This game does many things so well: first, its sense of mystery and the feeling of exploring something never before seen is second to NONE! No other game has even come close to how FBW uses its unique mechanics to surprise and mess with me, with hidden areas nested inside blocks which, themselves, appear in the hidden areas, and plenty of other mind-boggling mechanics which I'll let you find for yourself :) The second thing FBW does extremely well is the atmosphere: You'll spend hours in a seemingly endless world with so many of its own blocks and dungeons... But then you grow a few times and suddenly that entire world - a place you've likely spent hours trying to wrap your head around - is contained in a 1x1 block. When I'd felt this was when I was escaping the first Ying world, through multiple shells, until I'd grown out of the Ying flower and suddenly, 99% of my gameplay up to that point was inside a cube, inside multiple shells, inside a cube. I don't really know how to describe how I felt when that happened other than in awe! Combine this growing and shrinking aspect with the very surreal lore about inner space and its theories scattered about the world in places like yellow flowers, the developer-level sound effects and graphics, and the complete lack of music- and FBW manages to have the most uncanny, most mysterious, and most unique atmosphere out of any game I've ever played. Luckily, for all of FBW's confusing mechanics, you can find map charts on how to explore the Ying world, the Main Branch, etc, and more importantly: how to escape them! One negative about FBW, and this might be a big one for many, is that its combat system leaves much to be desired. Most enemies just kinda look at you and damage you, and none of the weapons are mechanically complex. This doesn't bother me though, since the focus is clearly on exploration.

The game introduces a new open-ended gameplay environment and the ability to select the protagonist's gender, a first in the series. The player's character, Vent or Aile, is on a 2-dimensional overlay map with sprites where he or she engages enemies to finish the mission. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - The Fallen
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - The FallenThe Bajorans believe the alien species that reside in the wormhole near their planet are Prophets, worshipping them as gods and referring to the wormhole as the "Celestial Temple". Bajoran legend tells that millennia ago, the Prophets expelled another race from the wormhole, the Pah-wraiths, imprisoning them forever in the Fire Caves on Bajor. However, legend tells of three red Orbs which are said to hold the key to the Pah-wraiths' resurrection and return to the Temple, although none of these Orbs have ever been located. Or so it is thought. The game is loosely based on a trilogy of novels by Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens called Millennium: The Fall of Terok Nor, The War of the Prophets, and Inferno. The setting is the Deep Space Nine space station featured in the American science fiction television series Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
