A modern argument for video games being classified as art. Fuga is an on-rails turn-based RPG with an established setting brought to life by a charming children’s book aesthetic juxtaposed with the grim realities of war. The option to sacrifice one of the children in your party to instantly win a battle adds gameplay stakes and a level of strategy few other games provide.
Cyberconnect2's passion project has never gotten as much attention as it should in the west. I played it, originally, because I was looking for something to play. I immediately was sent down the rabbit hole of the Little Tail Bronx series. Got my hands on a way to play Tail Concerto and the DS game, and the amount of love and care put into this series is staggering. Coming across archives of their artbooks alone is like uncovering treasure. I don't even understand the Japanese text, but by what can be gleaned of the images the amount of world building is staggering.
I just wish that I had more ways as a westerner to support this niche series.

Shin Megami Tensei II retains all the gameplay features of the previous game. The player is able to summon demons, fuse them to create more powerful ones, make them participate in battles, talk to random enemies and receive information from them, etc. The combat is turn-based, and the player explores the complex, maze-like dungeons from a first-person perspective view. Like in the first game, the Law, Chaos, and Neutral alignments play an important role: during the course of the game, the player will have to make choices that influence the alignment of the protagonist, steering the storyline into different directions.
