Golden Axe

Golden Axe (1989)

by Team Shinobi, Bandai, Sega, Telenet Japan, Virgin Mastertronic
Genres:Arcade, Hack and slash/Beat 'em up
Themes:Action, Fantasy
Game modes:Single player, Co-operative, Multiplayer
Story:Progress is made through the game by fighting through Death Adder's henchmen, including men armed with clubs and maces, skeleton warriors, and knights. Players are able to attack using their weapon, jump and cast spells that hurt all enemies on the screen. The force of this magic depends on the number of "bars" of magic power currently available. The bars are filled by collecting blue 'magic potions' attained by kicking little sprites who then drop the potions. These sprites appear during regular levels and during bonus stages in between levels. The male warrior Ax is able to cast earth spells. The dwarf Gilius, casts lightning spells and the female warrior Tyris casts fire magic. Each character has a different number of maximum magic bars and varying ranges of attack. Various steeds known as bizarrians are found in the game. These can be ridden when the enemy rider is knocked off, or if one is found dormant. The least powerful steed is known as the Cockatrice, which can be used to knock down enemies with a swipe of its tail. The more powerful dragon, which can either shoot fireballs or breathe fire, is found later in the game.Show more

My friend and i became arcade masters at this game back in the early 90's. We got to the point where we could complete the game not only on a single quarter, but also not losing any health bars AND performing various tag-team combat tricks along the way. Fun memories!

this game was soo good! loved playing it with another friend in my youth club in the 90ies! :D The little goblins that you could kick to get loot was so much fun (you also see them in Diablo 3 as a nostagia callback) i would love to play it again on gog.

One of my first video games on pc in the far 1990.....so tough for me (10 years old).....played on a OLIVETTI PC1 PRODEST with MS-DOS....oh my god! Nice hours together with my school friends, Thank you SEGA!
ahh, the always busy arcade machine and the money-pit that never gets full "was good for store owner though, Maybe! ", too bad none can play the remake, type of game that you can't give-up on hoping to play this again and enjoy it.
Those games also need your vote!

Angband
AngbandAngband is an open-source roguelike, the goal of which is to survive 100 floor levels of the fortress Angband in order to defeat Morgoth. The player begins in a town where they can buy equipment before beginning the descent. Once in the maze-like fortress, the player encounters traps, monsters, equipment, and hidden doors. With the help of found objects and enchantments, the player's attack and defense power increases, and can even neutralize specific attacks. Angband gameplay emphasises combat and careful resource management. The player has finite health points, and death is final. Although Angband records the player's progress to a save file, it does not allow one to resume a saved game in which the player character has already died. If the player overcomes Morgoth on the 100th floor, the game continues, and the player may continue descending to further floors. The levels are procedurally generated, allowing for a unique game in every play.
