I think this is an important tile that deserves to be preserved for all time. It was truly a revolutionary experience and to have it without steam works integrated would make it last forever
This game is amazing, but it needs an update without DRM because of the steamworks problem, with its 25th anniversary update I fixed a lot of bugs in the original.
It would be awesome to be able to grab this game's offline installers one day; who knows if this will ever happen. I know that this would be an instabuy for me if the price were reasonable; even though I already own the game elsewhere. This is probably the game that made me a PC gamer and I remember sitting on a chair right beside my father watching him play this, since I was too young to play without feeling too scared. Good times.

While Valve might not be planning to share HL or HL2 to gog due to being a competitor brand I would still believed gog can still preserve the game with valve approval and only get release if in any chance valve would belly up.

This game is one of the best ever made, regardless of its creators, this game deserves to be preserved forever. Its 25th anniversary update was great so it's a perfect candidate to be discussed in detail. I'm hopeful that Valve is a company that can open up the dialogue to give the green light to its distribution outside of its store.
One of the first major PC games me and my brothers played when I was a kid. Next to other games like Starcraft, Diablo 2, Tomb Raider 3-4, etc. Not to mention the countless number of mods spawned from Half-Life, such as Sven Co-op, They Hunger, Heart of Evil, Afraid of Monsters, Master Sword, Action Half-Life, The Specialists, Natural Selection, and so on. As well as mods that turned into official games, like Team Fortress Classic and Counter-Strike. It would be great if we got both legacy, and 25th anniversary builds, and also throw in the WON version with a resolution patch for the hell of it. Shame I need to use a ST emu to play my copy outside of Steam. Valve should, at the very least, put the HL1 trilogy on here - HL1, Opposing Force, and Blue Shift.

You can use the Xash 3D engine and play Half-Life without steam.
The 25th anniversary update for this game on Steam was a masterpiece, but this game still deserves to be preserved in its original 1998 form. To have that original version of the game preserved for the world to see would be incredible.

I remember being terrified of this game I almost scream at the screen when I saw those little face huggers I had epilepsy as a kid but my brother show me how to play it right. This will always be one of the best thrill rides in gaming for me.
I played this for the first time during a date in 2006. I was surprised the group that made it made more games. I had so much fun, I had to play more of the series. I was totally enthralled with the game and story-line.

Resident Evil Outbreak File #2
Resident Evil Outbreak File #2Raccoon City has been infected by the Umbrella corporations deadly T-Virus. A mutagenic toxin that turns its human victims into flesh eating zombies. The few survivors must try to escape the city before the government deploys its final solution to the problem of Raccoon City... Once again you find yourself playing the eight characters of the original Resident Evil: Outbreak in more scenarios set in the ruins of what used to be Raccoon City. The new game has several new scenarios and boasts new gameplay developments for the Resident Evil series. Loading times have been reduced and while the previous Outbreak was on-line enabled in the US, this game is the first on-line Resident Evil game in Europe. The locals featured in this game include both the familiar (The Raccoon Police Department) and the exotic (A mutated jungle at mid-day) ones. The game boasts a hefty amount of unlockable material such as artworks, notes, trivia, and character costumes. The game is backwards compatible with your save file from Resident Evil: Outbreak, meaning that you can take your unlocked content to this new setting.

Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition
Resident Evil 4: Wii EditionResident Evil 4: Wii Edition features the bonus content from the PS2 version and has many alterations compared to previous ports, taking Wiimote aiming into account: the shooting mechanism uses a much larger reticule that turns from green to red when an enemy is targeted as opposed to a very narrow laser sight, a "quick knife" command is added that auto-targets the nearest enemy or object, and motion sensitive quick time event prompts are included as well as button presses. Visually the game is on par with the original GameCube version, as opposed to the somewhat inferior graphics of the PlayStation 2 version, although in very few instances the inferior PS2 graphics are mistakenly retained, such as herbs having lower detail models in some places. The P.R.L. 412 was significantly upgraded and now shoots several beams instead of just one. The Wii version also supports the Wii's Classic Controller, which reverts aiming and the laser sight back to the original format. The only other noticeable differences are that the game seems significantly easier, and that all of Leon's actions appear to move slightly faster.

Resident Evil Code: Veronica
Resident Evil Code: VeronicaResident Evil Code: Veronica is the fourth video game in Capcom's Resident Evil survival horror series. The game continues the survival horror gameplay of its predecessors: the protagonist explores the surroundings, fighting monsters and solving puzzles. However, it is the first game in the series to do away with pre-rendered backgrounds using a fully polygonal 3D engine instead, which allows for features such as real-time lighting and camera movement. Still, such movements are only used sparingly, and the use of perspective is mostly unchanged from earlier installments: the camera automatically switches to different static angles showing protagonists, monsters and rooms from different spooky viewpoints.

Silent Hill: Origins
Silent Hill: OriginsSilent Hill: Origins is the fifth installment in the Silent Hill survival horror series, and a prequel to the original game. As in the previous entries, the player move back and forth between nightmare and real versions of the town, gathering items used to solve puzzles and open up new areas. Monsters of various types provide obstacles and, in series tradition, are mostly disturbingly twisted versions of humanity. The main character can fight with his bare fists or use melee weapons. Unlike previous games in the series, melee weapons break after a time. There are also one-shot items that can be thrown and several guns. There is no HUD, but the edge of the screen turns red when the protagonist is near death.

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories
Silent Hill: Shattered MemoriesSilent Hill: Shattered Memories is the seventh installment in the Silent Hill survival horror series, and a stand-alone reimagining of the original Silent Hill video game. Once again, you will cast Harry Mason searching across the haunted town for his missing daughter Cheryl. Through his exploration, Harry will come across objects and recordings that tell some of the history of Silent Hill. New to the series are a depiction of Silent Hill's demonic alter-dimension as a world of ice, and the removal of weapons from the game: when the monsters come out, Harry must literally run for his life. Between scenes, the game will cut to a psychiatrist's office, who asks personal questions about Harry and his past experiences. The game will then alter itself based on the player's responses, changing characters and lines of dialog to something intended to be more personally uncomfortable.

Resident Evil Survivor 2 Code: Veronica
Resident Evil Survivor 2 Code: VeronicaResident Evil Survivor 2 Code: Veronica is a first-person shooter video game and the second installment in the Gun Survivor series. As in most lightgun games, the objective is to make it through an environment while shooting enemies. It is somewhat less typical in that you have full roaming control over your character rather than being stuck on rails. More unusually, a timer begins as you enter each area. If the timer runs out before you leave, Nemesis will appear and chase you.
