I really want a functioning version of the MechCommander Series. I recently replayed it but it had so many issues, a “fixed for modern hardware” version would be a godsend.

This is one of versions of the tactical game that I loved as I was growing up. this game had LAN mode that I never played but I played Solo for hours and hours. The Salvage at the end of the missions can be great or terrible depending on how play each mission and I have found myself restarting the mission to get better loot like in campaign 1, Mission 3 you can get a fully powerful Clan Mech: The Mad Cat AKA Timberwolf if play it right and fast enough. I want to play this on modern computers and I'd be happy to pay for this instead of finding one online and the constant game crashing.
My first Battletech game, loved it, sorry don't have it playing in full function; got a version that almost work tottaly but some important functions don't work and turns it less fun. The mix of real time strategy and Mechs was a great fun and loved altering the mechs to make exotic loadouts.
This was my introduction to the BattleTech Universe. Running around in Giant Mechs, awesome weapons, tanks, salvage, the strategy. "Oh my God, it's a Mad Cat !". LOL I played "The Gold Edition" to the end several times and eventually found BattleTech , BattleTech Advanced 3062 and RogueTech. This was the game that got me hooked for life.

The original and gold are absolutely the best games I've ever played on the face of the Earth. I thought I was crazy until here I am in 2025 and I still can't get enough. To describe it to anybody looking for what kind of feeling you'll get from playing this and it's like fortnite on steroids. You know that feeling of getting a victory in a sweaty sweaty tight game of fortnite, it's the same thing here. I think what gives it its steroid effect is the fact that the strategy feels so much like war. The timing each movement you make every second you spend doing whatever you're doing ultimately decides the game. When that online mode starts, it's crazy how fast you exit reality in immerse yourself into a completely unique world that to this day is the top dog in the fun department. Honestly there's nothing better than a 3v3, and nothing better than a bunch of clans fighting each other for pure pride. Hope this game makes a comeback and honestly it wouldn't surprise me if it does I think console games are plateauing and I think we're all looking for games with exciting gameplay and this is it. If you're someone that likes to ADHD and be strategic and think outside the box but at the same time have a thirst for war, this is it.
MechCommander was a spectacular RTS that involved careful planning and execution. The rewarding feeling that you got when you salvaged a new mech from the battlefield was awesome. Different Mechs had different specialties and it was worth repeating a level to salvage a MadCat!! The paper manual included with the MechCommander games was literally a book of information. The MechCommander games would make an excellent addition to the GOG library and I would pick them up in a heartbeat.

Freelancer
FreelancerEight hundred years prior to the start of our story, bitter conflict divided all of mankind. A handful of colonists struck out on their own to begin anew - far away from the Earth and its turmoil. Several ships were launched with enough equipment and supplies to give the hundreds onboard a fighting chance - but since the area around far-off Sirius had never been surveyed, no one really knew what to expect. What they found was a new frontier of free-flowing natural resources, unexplored territories, great wonders and lurking dangers. Each ship, representing the clusters of people and their earthly place of origin, settled into different parts of the galaxy pre-selected by their ship-board computer to give them the best chance of survival. Life was hard in the beginning, but over the 800 years the different colonies prospered and expanded their territories, claiming more and more systems for their own. Survival and propagation eventually led to growth and profit as each of the colonies developed specialties and fostered commerce. As the colonies grew and time passed their connections with their roots on Earth dwindled and they lost their memories of the conflicts of the past. Soon their attention was dominated by new, more immediate conflicts. Feelings of lost ancestral connection spurred anachronism in the look of the great cities, and created a somewhat distorted image of each colony's cultural heritage. In the ever-expanding outer edge of the territories, frontier lawlessness prevailed. The Houses: Each shipboard colony that left Earth carried some memory of its origins in its name. The Liberty carried Americans, The Bretonia flew from The United Kingdom and surrounding territory, The Kusari from Asia, and the Rheinland launched with Germanic cargo. As each ship settled and colonies began to expand, they knew little about each other and their advancing development. Finally, little by little, the individual colonies found each other and began to set up trade routes to link their systems for commerce and solidarity. Today, with each colony firmly rooted in its respective corner of the galaxy, the colonies rely heavily on each other for trade and industry but also compete for resources and new territories in the Border Worlds. The colonies mandate member governments in "The New Alliance" within the Sirius sector. To control conflicts, each colony has forged alliances and treaties with others as they have grown. Competition remains fierce, however. Struggles rage for supremacy in business, commerce, resources, power and control. There can be tenuous peace between colonies' political agendas, but the grabs for holdings constantly unsettle the volatile frontier.

Laser Squad
Laser SquadLaser Squad is a turn-based tactics war game where the player completes objectives such as rescue or retrieval operations, or simply eliminating all of the enemy by taking advantage of cover, squad level military tactics, and careful use of weaponry. The squad's team members are maneuvering around a map one at a time, taking actions such as move, turn, shoot, pick up and so on that use up the unit's action points. More heavily laden units may tire more easily, and may have to rest to avoid running out of action points more quickly in subsequent turns. Morale also plays a factor; a unit witnessing the deaths of his teammates can panic and run out of the player's control. Including the expansion pack, there are seven scenarios in total, each one with its own difficulty settings and squad allocation Laser Squad originally came with five mission scenarios, with an expansion pack released for the 8-bit versions, containing a further two scenarios. Reaction from gaming magazines was positive, gaining it high review rating and several accolades. The legacy of the game can be seen in other titles like the X-COM series, especially the acclaimed UFO: Enemy Unknown which was also created by Julian Gollop and was initially conceived as a sequel to Laser Squad

Command & Conquer: Renegade
Command & Conquer: RenegadeRenegade's story takes place during the final days of the First Tiberium War originally depicted in Command & Conquer. GDI's top three Tiberium research specialists have been abducted by the Brotherhood of Nod. The player assumes the role of GDI commando Captain Nick "Havoc" Parker, who is assigned to rescue these experts. He conducts missions which take him all over the world in various countries and climates, both indoor and outdoor, and his actions greatly affect the current state of the war. As the game progresses it is revealed that the specialists have been forced into biochemistry research for the Brotherhood's top secret "Project Re-Genesis," An attempt to create genetically enhanced super-soldiers with the aid of Tiberium. As the player plays through a mission, the in-game EVA, or Electronic Video Assistance, periodically updates with mission objectives. EVA logs and updates all objectives and their current status. Objectives are categorized into three categories: primary, secondary and tertiary. The completion of primary objectives are crucial for that mission's success. Secondary objectives are not required for mission completion, but may assist in game play. Tertiary missions, which are usually hidden, do not assist much in game play, but will affect your final "rank" at the end of each mission.
