by Dynamix, Activision, Cross Media Soft
Genres:Shooter, Simulator
Themes:Action, Science fiction
Game modes:Single player
Story:MechWarrior is the first video game released in the BattleTech game series. MechWarrior was the first video game to offer the player a chance to pilot a BattleMech from the view of a pilot (a MechWarrior). With this game the player has a great deal of freedom when compared to many of the follow-up MechWarrior games, which include choosing missions, buying & selling 'Mechs and parts, hiring lance-mates, and traveling throughout the Inner Sphere. Underneath the major game mechanics, the player had the option of following a role playing style story arc that would unfold over a five-year (game time) period.Show more

One of the first sandbox type games, you were mostly free to roam the galaxy and do what you wished. Althougt there is a time limit on the game, very Oblivion-like in that you don't even really have to do the story missions if you like. For the time, the depth and graphics were decent.

No, no, no. You don't -understand-. This game introduced me to the Battletech universe. This game owned my life constantly to the utter dismay of my parents. I was absorbed by the combat and the lore and the universe and breathed it. I memorised the access codes. I knew every detail intimately. I breathlessly followed every gaming magazine's updates until Mechwarrior 2 was released and then I played -it- to death too. This game is why I'm obsessed with giant walking war machines. This game is why I became a robotics researcher - I build these now.

Few people cared, but actually this game has a storyline! If you bother to read "emails" that you recieve (in-game), they are from different characters that ask you to fly here (with your mech) and do this-and-that, and in the process your affinity to different factions changes, and you uncover bits and pieces of the story. Too bad that when I first played this game many years ago, all I cared for were giant robot battles and I didn't really care about the storyline...

TOCA 2: Touring Car Challenge
TOCA 2: Touring Car ChallengeTouring Car Challenge: TOCA 2 is the sequel to TOCA Championship Racing. Rather than focusing on traditional racing elements, Codemasters has taken the mechanics and structure of British Touring Car Championship and slapped it into a PlayStation CD. Because of this, the TOCA series is considered a niche racing game; something on the outskirts of the mainstream.

Pro Evolution Soccer 5
Pro Evolution Soccer 5The Pro Evolution Soccer 5 (often just PES5) box-art features Chelsea's John Terry and Barcelona's (Arsenal's at the time) Thierry Henry. The game was available for PC, PlayStation 2 and Xbox. The game had a much slower pace than its predecessors which surprised and angered many PES fans but was welcomed by others who thought 4 was too fast. However it was the first to introduce the online mode on all consoles. The game was infamous for the referee halting play for very tedious fouls.
