by Capcom Production Studio 3, Capcom
Genres:Role-playing (RPG)
Themes:Action, Science fiction
Game modes:Single player
Story:Mega Man X: Command Mission, known as Rockman X Command Mission in Japan, is a spin-off game in the Mega Man X series. It was released in 2004 on both the PlayStation 2 and the Nintendo GameCube, making it the second-to-last game in the Mega Man X series to be released. Unique to the series, it is an RPG featuring turn-based combat and an extensive story. It plays quite similarly to Capcom's signature Breath of Fire series in a number of ways, due to the shared development team. Chronologically, it is currently the Mega Man X game set furthest in the future, taking place sometime in the twenty-third century (22XX time period); however, it is also set in an alternate timeline outside of the main storyline of the Mega Man series. The Gamecube version let's you link up to Game Boy Advance so you can use the GBA as a treasure hunter locater. The PS2 version contains a Mega Man X8 Demo.Show more

This is probably one of the greatest RPG's of all time. I replayed this in adulthood and awas supreised my favorite childhood game has stood the test of time. ----- It still looks amazing, and the combat system in the game is kinetic, a y and x all fire off an attack. The combat is very similar in structure to the recent persona games and Metaphor. ----- The main draw is the evolution system, in combat characters evolve into forms and gain varied ultimate attacks that feature in depth mini-games. The creates an evolved and dynamic combat experience. ----- In terms of style, the game had models for every weapon you pick up in the game, and the megaman aesthetic really shines in the world, enemy and boss design.----- Perhaps the most important feature in this game is the movement. You jet across environments with a boost. Inspired and so sad that most games just have a simple 'run' toggle. Never really been a game like this since.

This is one I never got to play. Thanks to the various collections and the like, I've played all the Megamen around it, I even played the old DOS version back in the day, beating Voltman and his ilk to fight Wily in a tiny AT-ST in some random lab room. As such, I never got to play this game, and so I want to. I'm an RPG fan above all else, and this is one of the few in this series that tried for it. We all know it's not the best, it's a Capcom PS2 RPG, they were running on fumes, and their best ideas were cancelled by higher ups who were scared of competing with the new Juggernaut of the genre SquareENIX. But still, the fact that this got out, and is still loved by those who played it tells me there's something here I'll probably enjoy myself. So yes, I want it....maybe with a speed up animations button for the battles.
