Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (2015)

by Kojima Productions, Konami
Genres:Adventure, Shooter, Tactical
Themes:Open world, Action, Fantasy, Historical, Stealth
Game modes:Single player, Multiplayer
Story:Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is the sequel to Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes and a prequel to the original Metal Gear. The game has a complex story with long cut-scene sequences, but there are fewer and they are shorter compared to earlier Metal Gear Solid titles. Most of the gameplay mechanics introduced in Ground Zeroes are carried over: it is still an action game and stealth oriented but replaces the linear corridor design from most earlier titles with large open world environments that offer the player unrestricted freedom for the approach. The world has now a real-time day and night cycle and various weather effects that influence enemy behaviour, visibility and sound. Sabotaging or destroying certain structures can also influence other parts of the map.Show more

The final Hideo Kojima Metal Gear Solid game before he left Konami. A technical marvel of open world espionage action in two different regions, alongside a mother base development system that came from Peace Walker for the Playstation Portable, where you play Big Boss (Solid Snake's mentor). You need to play Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater, Peace Walker and Phantom Pain in this order to get the story and the characters. This prequel eventually leads to the original Metal Gear game, where you play Solid Snake for the first time. (Metal Gear Solid is technically the third Metal Gear game in the series.) This game would have been the setup for a remake of the original Metal Gear with David Hayter reprising his role as Solid Snake and Kiefer Sutherland as Big Boss, his mentor, CO and....go play Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 to know what I'm talking about. Ah, if only it could have been. Has an online component including purchases of a digital currency for buying upgrades for Mother Base, as well as challenges involving timed raid events on enemy mother bases and raiding or being raided by other players.
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain was my first game on PC, i tested in 2021 with my Acer Nitro 5 and the graphics runs perfectly, with my GTX 1650, also can run in CPU Graphics 😁
**Why *Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain* on GOG Is an Underrated Masterpiece** *Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain* is one of the most ambitious open-world stealth games ever made, yet it often flies under the radar when discussing gaming masterpieces. Despite critical acclaim at launch, it’s sometimes overshadowed by the controversy surrounding its unfinished story and Hideo Kojima’s departure from Konami. But beyond those headlines lies an incredibly refined gameplay experience—one that absolutely deserves a DRM-free home on GOG. MGSV is a masterclass in player freedom and emergent gameplay. Its sandbox design lets players approach missions however they want—sneaking, using gadgets, going loud, or even air-dropping a horse onto the battlefield. The AI adapts to your tactics, forcing you to constantly change your approach. The controls are smooth, the gunplay is sharp, and the stealth mechanics are some of the most polished in the genre. Narratively, while the game is more fragmented than previous entries, its themes of loss, identity, revenge, and manipulation are powerful and emotionally charged. The performances—especially Kiefer Sutherland as Big Boss—bring a somber weight to the story. The soundtrack is also stellar, blending 1980s nostalgia with haunting original tracks like "Sins of the Father." A release on GOG would ensure long-term preservation of this gem. DRM-free access would allow for community modding, deeper exploration, and full control over the experience. *MGSV* may not be the most traditional *Metal Gear* game, but it’s a bold, innovative evolution that deserves to be remembered—and replayed—on a platform that values complete game ownership.
