Wow, no love for the broke gamer? This collection of games were great for killing time and chasing high scores, and even better at having my noggin' fire on all cylinders. Just from looking at the screenshots I remember each game's soundtrack and sound effects and it puts me right back on our family computer in the living room trying to make it further than the previous session! This was my favorite step up from Mega Math Blaster on the PC. Even though they were puzzle games and kept me thinking just as hard, I didn't put them in the same category at that time as my strictly "learning" game. I need this in my life again.

I have been trying to remember the name of Jewel Chase for a very long time. If this game pack doesn't come to GoG, at least it gave me that as I've rediscovered it here. Fond memories of all the games here, even if Jewel Chase is the one that my brain held on to. The screenshots are bringing back memories I didn't know I still had.
This was one of the first CD ROM games I ever got my hands on as a kid. The first thing I really remember playing with my parents. This game helped me understand the workings of a computer. Mom's favorite was the rope game Fringer. Dad's was the the jewel game Finty Flush...mine bounced between Color Collision and Jewel Chase and both my brother and sister enjoyed Mixed Genetics and Rat Poker. We all loved this collection. Crazy seeing it again nearly 3 decades later Id love to see this make it into the archives, this is about as deep a cut as Redline Racer with the families first Gateway Computer.

The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age
The Lord of the Rings: The Third AgeThe Lord of the Rings:The Third Age introduces entirely new characters which aren't mentioned in the books or movies. The game does relate to the movies by including scenes from all three movies, with new background speech by Ian McKellen (Gandalf). There are seven playable characters in the game which have been created specifically for it, as well a small appearances by characters such as Gandalf, Aragorn, Eowyn, Faramir, and Gothmog. The game covers events in all three movies/books, mostly with references to major events shown through cut scenes, or the scenes from the movies with Ian McKellan's narration. A classic RPG game, The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age has gameplay elements similar to Final Fantasy, where you have a party of characters, each with a different set of skills and attributes, who gain levels, making them stronger as the game progresses. Battles are turn-based, and let the gamer make different decisions on what they want to do to change the outcome of the battle. The game travels through many areas throughout Tolkien's Middle Earth, including The Pelennor Fields and Moria.

Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter
Breath of Fire: Dragon QuarterBreath of Fire: Dragon Quarter is a radical departure from the previous titles of the Breath of Fire series, and in some ways from standard Japanese-style role-playing games in general. The game is built like a huge dungeon crawler, with no overworld map. The combat is tactical: each character has action points (AP), which can be used to move around the screen during an enemy encounter, and perform a variety of combo attacks. There is no magic in the game, and many of the items found in dungeons are random. All the enemies are visible on screen. Depending on who first initiated a physical contact, the party or the enemies get an extra turn in battles. The game allows (and even encourages) the player to restart it from the beginning, keeping the items and the party experience. The game also features a special counter - Ryu can use his traditional dragon transformation abilities, but the counter raises with each such transformation, and when the counter reaches 100, the game is over. Raising the D-ratio allows characters to access new areas every time the game is replayed.

Blue Breaker: Ken Yorimo Hohoemi wo
Blue Breaker: Ken Yorimo Hohoemi woThe world of Blue Breaker is called "the path in the middle of empty sky": floating islands connected with each other by bridges. It is the tradition of the people in this world that a fighter's full initiation can be completed only when he finds his true love and marries her. Such day has come now in the life of a young warrior named Kain, the hero of the game. His father explains to him that besides the usual warrior's goal of defeating the evil Dark Lord, Kain also has to find the girl of his dreams. He introduces to him a young sorceress named Asha, who becomes his first companion. But on his journey Kain meets many other young women, and it won't be so easy to choose one to whom he can give his heart! Labeled as Love Role-Playing, "Blue Breaker" is a genre-crossing game that combines traditional Japanese RPG with town and dungeon exploration, party-based combat, etc., with "love adventure", in which your behavior towards girls influences the story. "Blue Breaker" features branching story progressing: events appear depending on the progress you have made with your female companions. Your typical RPG activities will influence your relationship with the girls. For example, if you fight too much, the girls will be tired; if you give a girl too many orders in battle (you can set battle in auto mode and only interfere occasionally) she will be displeased, and so on. It is also important to form a party in which the girls will have as few internal conflicts with each other as possible.

The player must regularly enter an inventory screen to check Harry's health, use items, and equip different weapons.
