This game was a reimagining of the best aspects of the structure of Dragon Quest 1 or 3. You can really just wander around and find things at your leisure, with genuinely useful NPC dialogue telling you all about the various places to go and things to do.
There's some requirements of needing X to do Y, but it's all very organic. You really can just find your own way around, and you get rewarded pretty well for doing so.
Possibly the one of if not the best Japanese style RPG, depending on what you prioritize. It is, as far as I know, the best/most advanced/most modern in it's own forgotten class of game.
Completely classic. If you like Dragon Quest, especially 1 or the midgame of 3, this is the game you want to play.
