Ratchet & Clank

Ratchet & Clank (2002)

by Insomniac Games, Sony Computer Entertainment
Genres:Adventure, Platform, Shooter
Themes:Action, Comedy, Science fiction
Game modes:Single player
Story:Ratchet & Clank is a platform/adventure game in a similar vein to the 3D versions of the Rayman, Sonic, Mario, or other games. It involves the two protagonists Ratchet, a furry alien creature, and Clank, a nerdy little robot, going on a quest to find Captain Qwark and ultimately to help save the galaxy. Ratchet & Clank includes many of the best features of previous similar games, but makes itself unique in a number of ways. Firstly each of the game's levels are huge sweeping vistas with extremely detailed buildings which are visible at all times (i.e. there is no distance fog). This means that a building on the horizon is not just a "backdrop"; in all likelihood Ratchet will be exploring it in a few moments time. Secondly, the game includes a number of sub-games, such as a space fight sequence and a number of turret shoot-outs which are akin to Missile Command in the first person. The game has over twenty levels (planets) and includes as many real-time cut-scenes which tell the story. Also of note is that the story is non-linear, requiring the player to return to previous levels to complete objectives and to choose between multiple paths forward. There is also a respectable array of weapons, gadgets, and accessories to find or buy as the game progresses, which offer some unique gameplay features.Show more

I first played this game at my cousin's house on his Ps2 and was immediately drawn in to the colorful planets and whimsical art style. I honestly feel this one still holds up today. The series has a great story and fantastic humor. Not to mention the incredible wacky weapons and gadgets.... This is a classic.
**Why *Ratchet & Clank* (2002) Should Be on GOG and Why It’s the Best PS2 Game Ever** *Ratchet & Clank* (2002) isn’t just a classic—it’s a defining moment in gaming history. As one of the PlayStation 2’s most iconic titles, it set a new standard for action-platformers with its creative weaponry, witty writing, and unforgettable duo. Bringing it to **GOG** would preserve this masterpiece for PC players in DRM-free form, making it accessible for generations to come. What made the original *Ratchet & Clank* so special was its **perfect balance of platforming, shooting, exploration, and humor**. Every weapon was unique and satisfying to use, from the Bomb Glove to the Visibomb Gun, making combat constantly engaging. The game also introduced players to vibrant alien worlds that felt alive and full of personality—each level packed with secrets, platforming challenges, and rewarding collectibles. Beyond gameplay, the chemistry between Ratchet and Clank laid the foundation for one of gaming’s most beloved duos. The writing was sharp, the cutscenes entertaining, and the story charming without ever feeling too serious. Add in a killer soundtrack and tight controls, and you’ve got a game that aged like fine wine. Releasing *Ratchet & Clank* on **GOG** would allow it to shine on modern PCs, free from DRM, with potential visual upgrades and controller support. It’s not just one of the best PS2 games ever—it’s a genre-defining classic that deserves to be preserved and celebrated properly on PC.

I'm a sucker for the ratchet and clank games especially the first three. I remember beating the first game so many times as a kid and even about 3 years ago i found my ps2 and replayed it. still as awesome as I remember
I played this game when I was a kid before school and loved the platforming and gunplay the unique gadgets and weapons this game offered such as the swing shot, the thruster pack upgrade for clank, and my all time favorite weapon the suck cannon. I find my self going back to every so often as an adult finding more features that i love with this game, the banger OST from David Bergeaud, the funny witty banter of the characters, and the varitey of tactics to use with a full arsenel. I'd love to see this game get a PC rerelease so I can force my friends to play it who missed out on it.
I remember I was 10 years old when it came out. I tried the demo on Mediaworld’s PlayStation 2 which was displayed along the videogames aisle. I fell in love with it right away, and that same summer I was gifted a copy. The gadgets, the story, the sound the menu and the map made when you opened them.. man they are iconic. And the soundtrack? Jowai is my favorite. I played it so many times I still remeber it by heart and it is my favorite videogame ever alongside Halo. Please bring it back, we need it for our souls ❤️

Arc the Lad III
Arc the Lad IIIThe events of this game take place several years after Elk and Arc faced their ultimate enemy in "Arc the Lad II". You control Alec, a teenager whose entire village was destroyed by an unknown evil - an event that was later called "The Great Disaster". He was saved by a mysterious Hunter. Since then, growing peacefully in a village he was brought to, which was like a new home for the survivors of the Great Disaster, Alec dreams about meeting the Hunter again, and becoming a Hunter himself. Together with his best friend Lutz he tries his luck in nearby towns, receiving small Hunter jobs, until the fate crosses the ways of the two young people with a mysterious organization called the Academy. And there their adventure really begins... The gameplay of this third installment of Arc the Lad series is very similar to that of the predecessor. You fight enemies in turn-based battles, and can move freely on the battlefield, positioning your party members the way you like. You can upgrade your weapons by forging them with special materials, and have a variety of techniques and magic spells at your disposal.

Arc the Lad II
Arc the Lad IIThis direct sequel to "Arc the Lad" continues the unfinished story of the first game, but starts from a totally different perspective. You control a bounty-hunter named Elk, who suffers from amnesia. On his quest for his own true identity he discovers the powers hidden within him, and the destiny of his entire tribe. While pursuing his archenemy, Elk meets up with Arc, the hero of the first game, and then both realize they have been looking to destroy the very same evil. The battle system of "Arc the Lad II" is similar to the one used in its predecessor: in battles you can move your characters on the battle field, and your proximity to the enemies plays an important role. You cause and take different amounts of damage depending on your position on the battle field. Unlike the first game, this one is a full-fledged adventure/RPG, without the "strategy" feel of the predecessor. You move through the game world on your own, visiting towns and exploring dungeons.
