This game back in the days was promoted as PC port of the upcoming Playstation/XBox game.
Even the trailer for the XBox game said there was a PC version and to promote the PC version screenshots of the XBox version were used (I think even on the games box) ... but all this was far from the truth.
The programmers of Treyarch didn't know anything about a PC version when reporters asked them about it. And in fact the PC game was a completely different game. It was meant for children, was much much simplet. No detailed (well, PS2/XBox Level detailled) open world, but gray walls in zones limited by invisibe walls. No free swinging, you had to target a hotspot on a wall or (I think) sometimes mid-air and Spidey would then do the according swing back and forth until you targeted a new hotspot. The fight system was puter button mashing.
But it also had it's good sides. The story was different from the one on the XBox, it had some nice boss fights, like stopping Doc Oc from robbing a bank, while protecting Aunt May who just so happened to be in the same bank.
The bossfights were not so bad, rather than on difficult evading and combos they were more puzzle style, like hitting buttons on a wall in a certain order or so.
Was it a good game? No, certainly not.
But was it terrible? Also no, for a kids game it was absolutely ok.
The worst thing about this game was how it was promoted. Many people were fooledn and disappointed.
It's not the XBox classic, but it should have it's place on GOG anyway.
(Not that this is gonna happen, there are no old Spider-man games available on any digital platform, licences run out)
