Sim Theme Park

Sim Theme Park (1999)

by Bullfrog Productions, Electronic Arts, Feral Interactive
Genres:Strategy, Simulator
Themes:Business
Game modes:Single player
Story:Like the previous title, Theme Park World tasks players with managing a series of amusement parks. To do this, the player must choose how to spend their available funds, finding a way to expand the number and scope of their parks while remaining profitable. Income from the park can be used to purchase new rides or attractions, hire staff to maintain the park, and other similar functions. Various elements can be controlled by the player, such as the name of the park, the price of admission, the layout of the roller-coaster tracks, and the quality of food in the park restaurants. An ant-like announcer by the name of Buzzy, voiced by Terry McGovern in the American-tailored Sim Theme Park and Lewis MacLeod in UK release Theme Park World, helps the player with advice during gameplay.Show more

Incredibly underrated, one of the first 3D theme park management games in the world. You could even ride the rides yourself, and each park had a distinct theme of their own, from dinosaurs to space! One of my favorites was the halloween -themed world. Every day when you booted the game it'd show you a different video intro, which were hilarious. Managing your park was fun and the editor tools were powerful with plenty of cool rides to unlock. There shouldn't be a problem to bring this back, since it's from Bullfrog / EA and there's no licensed music or anything like that. Can we also bring back the sequel, Theme Park Inc?
Received this game as a gift from a dear relative in 1999 or 2000, would have been 7 or 8 years old, in any case my dad helped me install it on our Dell Pentium 4 and I remember I sat there and played it for 6 hours straight, taking out loans, running my parks into the ground and having to start a new file, it crashed periodically every couple hours, even when I later played the PS2 port, same issue, but I loved seeing the different intros on startup, and it taught me early the importance of saving frequently. I remember my Dad looking online at that time and finding an exploit for tons of cash, basically set up any store and adjust the price to the max, if an npc had already entered, they needed to pay whatever the price was to leave, so set the slider to 25k for some fries or a gift at the gift shop and you'd never need a loan, absolutely magic game. It had a pleasing art style, rides were imaginative, roller coaster building was finicky at first, but once you get it, you can have it doing laps through the whole park, it even included a go kart ride and you could design that track too, and then if you wanted you could walk around the park, meet the 2D sprite NPCs and go on the rides, even if it was just a bouncy castle. Four different park themes too. I've kept my physical copies and collected more over the years, discovered the sequel recently in a second-hand shop, but I've gushed enough. This is one of the first games I searched up when I created a GOG account, please bring it back EA, I'll buy it again.

I would love to see all 5 games on GOG: Theme Park (already on it) , Theme Hospital (already on it) , Theme Aquarium (not on GOG, very hard to find as well) , Theme Park World , Theme Park Inc. ...Let's bring the whole franchise to GOG! They are all really good games.

I had this game instead of any of the RCT games at the time, and I was terrible at it. But even if all my parks failed, I still had a great deal of fun. I'd like to get back to this as an adult, but despite still having my copy of the game, it refuses to work on any computer I own (including a Windows XP machine I have specifically for retro gaming). Please bring back this criminally underrated classic, GOG.

Being one of my first park management games it was also the most fun one. The visual design was colorful and exciting. The ability to experience the rides yourself in first person was an immersive experience. Getting this game to run is an impossibility so getting it to GOG would be a godsend.

I was playing this last year on my PC! There are fixes to get it working, but it's not 100% garanteed and still prone to just randomly shutting down. To have a workable version of this game that doesn't require time and expertise to get it working would not only make my day, but would be fantastic for everyone else!

I remember getting this and Dungeon Keeper 2 for one birthday, and man I loved both games. The ability to walk among the theme park goers and ride all the rides was just the best, allowing me to fully enjoy the parks I was building. I love what GoG did with DK2, finally restoring the long missing Polish dub, while also fixing the jitterry camera, and if the same could be done for Theme Park World, I would buy it in a heart beat.

Used to play ton of this as kid, used to build and test out all kinds of roller coasters which caused people to puke and having to hire more cleaners and staff to keep fixing rides.
This was one of my favorite games to play at my grandparents' house when I was little, under its American name Sim Theme Park, and while I still have the discs, the game uses Securom. I loved being able to ride the rides yourself.

To this day me and my brother still talk about the good old days when we would run to our dad’s computer and play Sim Theme Park all day till our eyes burned from the lack of blinking. One of my favorite memories is of me and my brother always guessing what opening cutscene we would get and what shenanigans the little characters would get into. This game had heart and made me feel welcome to explore and create. I hope to one day relive this dorky exciting experience and share it with others!
