Transarctica

Transarctica (1993)

by Silmarils
Genres:Adventure, Strategy, Simulator
Themes:Action, Science fiction
Game modes:Single player
Story:The story is based on a post-apocalyptic science fiction saga La Compagnie des Glaces (The Ice Company) written by Georges-Jean Arnaud and the comic strip Le Transperceneige (The Snowpiercer) by Jacques Lob. In the 21st century, mankind is being ravaged by the greenhouse effect. A last-ditch effort to counteract it is designed and executed. It works far too well. Centuries if not millennia later, the planet is entirely covered in a thick, opaque cloud layer. Giant wolf packs roam the frozen wastes, and the mammoth has re-emerged from the elephant stock. Mankind ekes out a living in a few handfuls of settlements, connected by a network of massive armored trains. The network in turn is in the hands of the gargantuan Viking Union, which is merciless towards threats to its power. A few radicals, though, are willing to attempt a change, and managing to hijack a train of the Union, the Transarctica, they set out in search of the "sun".Show more

I have played this game on my Amiga many years ago. The dystopian setup and gameplay always fascinated me. I have never finished this game and it would be nice to play it again

Farland Story: Tenshi no Namida
Farland Story: Tenshi no NamidaFarland Story: Tenshi no Namida is a sequel to Farland Story II, released in mid 1994. The third in the row of Farland Story games, this title looks and plays very similarly to the first two games. You navigate your party over the world map in turn-based fashion. After you have assigned commands to your party members, it is the enemies' turn. You can attack physically when enemies are in range of your weapon, or cast spells - each character in your party belongs to a certain class and specializes in different type of combat. You gain experience points directly from hitting an enemy, even while counter-attacking, and can therefore level up in the middle of a battle.

Rance 4.2: Angel Army
Rance 4.2: Angel ArmyRance 4.1 and Rance 4.2 are two parts of the same storyline, and use the same mechanics and artstyle. Part of the game involves navigating the Happiness Pharmaceutical office and Romance Park, speaking with people, and investigating the surroundings through an adventure game menu. The other part is a dungeon-crawler taking place in the Angel Army secret underground base. Within the base, there are specific rooms where the player can interact with the environment, use healing items, and load/save. The rooms are connected to each other by thin routes, where the only available actions are "Advance" and "Retreat", to take a step forwards or backward. (Most routes are about 3-5 steps long). These paths are the spots where random encounters can occur. When the game starts, the base is unmapped, and paths are marked on menus as "???". Each time the player crosses a path and enters a new room, Athena 2.0 will draw the room on the map (with a short dialogue among the party Rance about how to name and illustrate it; sometimes giving comical or non-indicative names). If Athena is not present, Rance will try to draw the map himself. The "???" option will change to reflect the room name. Some paths are hidden or trapped, and can only be crossed later in the game.

Neon Genesis Evangelion: 1st Impression
Neon Genesis Evangelion: 1st ImpressionThe first Evangelion video game, released for the Sega Saturn in 1996, shortly after the TV series's run. The story is set after the episode ASUKA STRIKES!, with Shinji badly injured and suffering amnesia as the result of an Angel battle and needing to retrain (by sparring with Asuka in Unit-02) and having to defeat the Angel to regain his memories. The game features RPG elements and FMV clips for combat; most of the animation is original to 1st Impression (with the voices of the original Evangelion voice actors and some other content recycled from the TV series).
