The forums here suck because things like this are left to continue, especially when the contributions run out of apparent value. I have little desire to spread generosity here like I used to. Hell, there's little reason to interact with more than ten people here because of entitlement, trolling, ego stroking and the general malaise that comes from coming into contact with others over the internet. People abuse their anonymity because it's far easier to be a jerk than maintain civility. And the fact that you can get about a thousand morons to agree to a stupid opinion only highlights the fact that its a downward slope from here.

In order for these forums to actually be worth visiting and doing more than lurking, there have to be one of two outcomes: A) have only game specific forums or B) introduce moderation. With a rep system that is easily abused and indicative of nothing, there are no viable tools for self-moderation. Being able to banish spam posts is handy, but not in our hands. The works of other GOGlodytes aren't long-term solutions. This has to be fixed by GOG if it wants a community that is willing to stick around rather than lurk. I know they can't do everything and not everything is necessary.

While I have a passing acquaintance with snowkatt and sometimes katt's posts make me roll my eyes, I'd trade a hundred thousand trolls for one of her. Same goes for zeogold, fairfox and tinyE. You (or I) may not always agree with them, but they bring more to the table than a lot of other people. Anyway, that's it.

Kleetus also used to post in the Witcher 2 subforum back when a bunch of us stuck around there exclusively or almost exclusively. Those were good, fun times. Lots of fond memories of bizarre weirdness and miscellaneous randomness. I always thought that they took on a more antagonistic style in response to perceived cliquishness around here, but that's just an assumption. I still like him, though! I like you, too! And Fairfox's posts are awesome! And dtgreene is entertaining to talk about jRPGs and speedruns with! Etcetera with all kinds of other users I could say positive things about.

The whole thing is depressing, honestly. The forum's current state is like a feedback loop reinforced by a self-fulfilling prophecy at this point; some people are convinced that it's worse than it used to be, which makes them quicker to rally against perceived negative influences (not that that's always an incorrect assessment, but still) responsible for the believed decline, with those influences then becoming irritated by the group going after them and becoming worse in response. So on and so on. Anyone remember when gunsynd ragequit and new users were attacked as being their new alt? Or when the same thing happened during the scammer epidemic? Or a few posts ago where everyone turned on each other? This place can get crazy confrontational sometimes and it only brings out the worst in everyone.

Can't we all just be nicer to everyone and ignore the people we don't like? I'm sure even the people who semi-regularly get into spats could find an issue or two where their opinions align. Like how annoying those Korean spam bots are, or the inherent wickedness of all who prefer the forum's light theme.

I have to admit I didn't know before this thread that snowkatt is apparently female, judging by others referring to her as "she". Or if I had realized it at some point, I had forgotten about it then.

Not that it matters either way, and I kinda like it that the gender doesn't come up too strongly in these forum discussions. It shouldn't matter what kind of genitalia you have, or if you have none, or even both. The most important thing is that you like the games here.

While I definitely recognize her avatar, I don't have a clear image what kind of stuff she usually wrote, what kind of games she liked or what political views she had... maybe we just didn't hang around too much in the same threads or sumthing.

Now I feel like I am writing about her in past tense, an obituary. "I didn't know her well but...".
