For me being Scottish, Halloween and all it's past forms has always been a big thing since before records began. It's a big thing, but has changed horrifically in the past 20-25 years. The whole thing has become Americanised. It's now all about selling things and making money. It was a bit more serious when I was a kid and could be quite creepy for a child. Now I see kids dressed as princesses and comic book heroes. It's a joke. Guising was supposed to be about scaring the spirits of the dead away, not make them laugh.

I don't get the adult thing either. It was just for kids but now it's also about getting drunk whilst being dressed up. A lot of the time they don't even dress up in anything spooky like in America. It just a fancy dress party. I hate what the U.S has done to the day...note I said day. In the U.S they talk about it for the whole of October! WTF.

So no, I don't like what Halloween has become or care about it.

Lucumo: We did "Zampern" in ~February though, going from house to house (and stopping cars, people), dressed up and playing music to get sweets, money, alcohol etc. I also did "Laternelaufen" once when I was in Kindergarten. Never seen it again after that, not sure it's even a thing anymore.
In February we did "Lichten gehen": Send an anonymous self-invitation to friends. Then, when the day comes, don a full-body costume and mask and go there - they have to provide you with food and drink until they guess who you are. Of course they would make things hard for you: turn up the heating to make you sweat in your costume, make a lot of jokes to try to make you laugh (to recognise the voice). Serve the most impractical food and drink to make it hard to consume while wearing the mask... great fun.
Nearest neighbor is 2 miles and I just had surgery, but I'm still going Trick'or'Treating!!!

Okay, yeah, that's bullshit.

Just had surgery? I smell ready made mummy costume!
In Argentina, and right now in Brazil, Halloween is not that big of a deal. In Argentina maybe there is a party with the theme, maybe a special happy hour on some bar... Same for Brazil for what I am witnessing... So no, never cared for that "holiday". Maybe if I was a little boy I would care about it, but that ship has sailed already.
My birthday is on Halloween (just turned 23, yay!), but all I do to celebrate it is get gifts from my Mom (what? I like presents, and I love my Mother, besides, no-one else likes me, and all of my other relatives are either dead or estranged, and for good reason), and eat a chocolate cake with chocolate icing (a tradition for as long as I can remember). No candles; I hate fire and heat, I want to live someplace where it snows all day, all year, every day, every year (besides, the last time I blew out a candle, it exploded, got wax all over me, ugh!). I live in a small, out-of-the-way, rural development community with nine houses, and everyone pretty much minds their own business, so no-one celebrates Halloween in my little neck of the woods. I don't like celebrations, anyway; too much noise, too many people, parties really wrack my Autistic nerves.
