Where do I start the Neptunia Series?

Asking the Superior Weebゲーマーの神 out there :-3

Do I start at Megadimension Neptunia Series? The Hyperdimension Neptunia Series? Anyone who has played through the series, does it do the JRPG/RPG Genre Justice or not?

Does anyone else also wonder if GoG will maybe one day add an "Anime" store Filter?

P.S.

I've never played any of those games, but doesn't "mega" usually come before "hyper"?
Also, adding Anime as a new filter is a great idea.

Hi there!
Start with the Re;Birth trilogy. Then go for Megadimension one, it's the fourth part.

And prepare for having lots of fun.

IIRC, the "VII" isn't supposed to be the roman numeral 7, it's supposed to be "V-2" as in "Victory 2" (like the remake of Victory changing it to V Generation)

so there's the first three games, the rebirth ganes that remake the first three games, and then VII. Everything else is a spinoff in its own continuity. But even then there's basically little to no continuity between the "main" titles, to the point where practically every game in the series is more or less a soft reboot of the concept with the same cast.

The games are... kind of the sort of budget thing that you'd play when you've already played everything else? or are just trying to kill a little time. Mildly grindy copy/paste dungeon quests with a not terrible battle system and series of comedic sketch cutscenes inbetween. Nothing amazing or groundbreaking, but not the sort of soul crushing abominations that make you question the existence of a just and loving god like Idea Factory's older games like Blazing Souls or Agarest.

the spinoffs aren't worth playing though, besides the Noire one (though I think the developer's other srpgs are more interesting/fun) and maybe the hardware girls crossover (which is set up similar to the main series but shorter)

Wut?

I've only played a little. It depends on what you mean by "justice." Early on in the first game, there's a lewd scene with a woman wearing nothing except bandages, with the punchline about not needing to be super strong (making a reference to how female armor always gets more revealing the higher the armor rating). I'll let you judge from there. I noticed the gag implicitly sort of comes back when they transform. And conveniently, the english writing doesn't exactly match the japanese voices, implying to me that plenty got cut at some point, but i didn't hear anything major in the time i played.

For reference, i quit playing because the framerate on my old rig.

I think there's a gogmix for that, though.
