idbeholdME: Interested to see how this turns out.
Too bad GOG can't work directly with the community experts because GOG used their own fixes back in 2012 but hopefully, something good comes out of this.
KetobaK: Maybe they are working with some experts, GOG is know to work and support some communities that work with old titles! Like DOSBox or ScummVM.
Well, from the Steam thread, the situation is obviously very complicated and the community guys are currently just waiting until GOG releases its own thing and then they will act based on that. But it also seems that GOG used wrace's patch all the way back in 2012 when it first released here and now there are some issues because of that.
Seems like GOG will only do some basic stuff and then you will have the option of applying wrace's patch on top of that which IMO is the optimal solution. That way, purist people can go with the original PC version and those who want better cinematics or features from consoles (dynamic music for example) will have the OPTION to install a community patch. With games in general, it is always best to have the base release version (or as close to it as possible) and then apply further updates according to your taste. Sadly, ever since digital distribution became mainstream, that usually does not happen.
If GOG manages to fix the sound buffer overflow bug (sound effects get desynced/stop playing after playing the game for a while) that will be the main thing.
