On the other hand, it's a good idea to backup your game if GOG ends up bringing it and it replaces the older version.

If the devs are gonna pull cap like that I'd rather not have Call of the Tenebrae come here. It's one thing if the expansion was crap - it's another if the expansion take a dump on the rest of the game like this one is doing.

GOG had better well not go near any of that greed infested, game destroying, consumerist making, money sucking, we-paid-for-the-game-not-the-ability-to-give-you-more-money-you-complete-cash-monkey nonsense! That stuffs one step away from pay by the minute DRM, and that's just criminal!

Getting back on topic, I really hope this is just a crazy experiment they're doing (which will obviously fail), not a general trend they're going to apply to all the games under their umbrella...
