Hey everyone!

A bit of a sad heads up today: unfortunately, we are going to be removing UFO: Afterlight from our catalogue tomorrow at 3PM CET due to a recent change in rights holder. We will try our absolute best to bring the game back as soon as possible, but we can't make any promises as of yet. Really sorry about this!

JMich: Sad indeed. Any comment about the other two UFO:A? games?
As of now, this only concerns Afterlight. Hopefully there will be no changes to this.

Maxvorstadt: Well, the thruth is:
Swiss animal rights activists strike again!!!
No, not this again, please :D

benmar: Bummer.
But the heads-up is definitely appreciated.
I know - it's never pleasant to have to break such news to you guys. But either way, we will be working on getting the game back, fingers crossed we can do it!

anothername: Just Afterlight; not Aftershock & Aftermath?
Based on the info I was given, this only concerns Afterlight.

ShadowWulfe: Please get it back! And I think there are actually more in the series besides those three?

I greatly enjoyed all of them, even the clunky Aftermath, and it's a shame to have even one of them gone.
I know, they're good games, agreed. We will try, though, for sure.

Lin545: :( Well, go ahead and cook Bohemia Goulash with Swiss cheese and extra garlic, together with whoever removed Duke Nukem... Even for a true Xcom fan (who dislikes Apocalypse graphics), Ufo series are worth playing.

Sad news.

Lin545: Can GOG at least organise a discount for the series?
I hope it won't be pulled from my library. :/
As for the discount - it was in the talks but as it looks just now, there won't be a discount for the series at the moment.
Other than that - it should not be pulled from your library.

Painted_Doll: Why isn't it on the front page ?
We don't generally do newsposts for game removals, unless it's a very big game.

EDIT: But we do always try and give people on the forums as much of a heads up as we can.

Painted_Doll: But not everyone read the forums .
That's correct, but so far this has worked well enough - any queries always get directed to here, so people can follow what happens subsequently as well as get the full story.

korell: Indeed, I just missed this as I only routinely check the "What Did Just Update?" thread in the general forum. :(
Not everyone reads the forums, yes, but not everyone routinely checks the website either. It's a tough call but where exactly it gets published isn't necessarily my gig, sorry :(

Smannesman: OK, but why not (I ask again) not make these announcement at least show up with a blue dot in front?
Now it seems like you're trying to hide it.
Which is understandable.
Nah, not trying to hide it - hence why we do always try to let people know in advance. I'm not sure why it doesn't come up with a blue dot, perhaps because it's not set up as news - I can investigate here, but it's not a setting I can change myself, it would need an admin intervention. Other than that, in all honesty, I think with most removals, we do reach a fair amount of users, and we've not recently, at least in my time here, had any huge issues around game removals. Plus, unless things get sent out as newsletters, we'd never really reach absolutely everyone.

Smannesman: Well I unsubscribed from those years ago because they always came two weeks late, so that wouldn't be everyone either.
I would guess that they work a bit better now than they did years ago :) But I understand your point and will let bizdev and product know for future reference. Thanks!

korell: I'd rather see it in on the GOG homepage in the headlines section, a place that is visible to anyone who visits the site without having to go searching the forums. Those headlines also seem to correspond to the blue dot forum entries. Or for an email to be sent to all GOG.com users, again something that has been done before as I recall having received a couple of emails regarding the removal of games, but that was quite some time ago now.

Now whilst it may not be your personal decision as to where the notifications get published, you are the GOG staff member who broke the news, so I'm just providing my feedback on how this was done in this instance. Hopefully you can forward on the feedback to the relevant GOG staff member(s) for future consideration.

All in all, I find GOG to be a very good digital game distribution site (and as you can see I've been here for quite some time, and used to be very active within the forums, though less so more recently), but there are a few occasions where things don't go so well and there are a couple of cases that I'm aware of where an issue doesn't get resolved even though it should be really easy to do so (in one such case GOG staff said they were working on it, but then it all went quiet and something like 2 years later it is still outstanding). I provide my feedback in the hope that it will help GOG to continue to improve.
The feedback is, of course, very much appreciated.
