As Business Plot 2.0: International Boogaloo fleshes out I am reminded of another important historical event that should've made it to the history books in full context.
Although strong cases can be made of other events in our history (i.e. Kennedys), the Wilmington insurrection of 1898 is technically the only coup d'état in U.S. history.
The burgeoning black middle class and elected officials of color at the time should've been held up as examples of successful reconstruction efforts in the south post Civil War but was instead intentionally sabatoged culminating in a violent massacre of hundreds of innocents and office holders removed by gunpoint.
This event played heavily in ushering in Jim Crow laws soon thereafter.
By the time I was going through grade school it was only starting to be mentioned in state cirriculum albeit in a very whitewashed manner.
