P1na: I'm playing on the bed, now. It gets annoying because the mouse loses accuracy when going over the... wrinkles? of the sheet, though.

tinyE: What shouldn't bother you is the fact that you are playing on a bed but rather the fact that I'm UNDER the bed! :O
Damn. You seem to be in a lot of places!
Does this suffice, cmdr_flashheart?
I really want to see this desk. How is he sitting on it? Where are the keyboard and mouse? I am sure there are some weird angles to this desk
In all serious, go for an obtuse angle such as a 110 degree slant. Also, I would recommend getting a dentist chair, it makes gaming more fun.
Haha, I was half joking with this thread, but I think I'll go with the advice for a chair; sitting this up close is hardcore and all, but not very lumbar-friendly.

Thank you all for the support, you guys had my back. Okay, I'll stop.

+1s all around! :D
My computer chair is the most comfy place to sit in the entire apartment, so I sit on it, in front of the computer, using my mouse & keyboard for playing most games. I also have a joystick, a gamepad & a wheel, though those are only used for specific games.

cmdr_flashheart: Pfft, chairs are for casuals.
Yeah, I have a screw half-mounted in my ceiling, I like to hang there upside-down by holding the screw with my left-foot toes, then I use the mouse against the ceiling with the right foot, hold the keyboard with the right hand and use it with the left. I do have to watch the games upside-down, but it doesn't bother me.

I do get a little tired after a few hours in that position though, so in long sessions I may switch to holding the screw between the pinky and ring fingers (so I'm head-up), keyboard in one hand, typing with the foot, and mousing on the bottom of the keyboard with the other foot.

cmdr_flashheart: Sorry, and this might sound a bit silly, but how do people sit in front of their PCs to play games? I mean sitting on a desk and playing with a mouse and keyboard.
I am not counting my PC usage at work, which is 99% on the desk. The desk can be lowered and elevated so that I can either sit or stand up while using the PC (they claim it is very unhealthy to sit many hours at a time...).

Back when I was a desktop PC gamer mostly, I used a desk and a chair. Later the chair wasn't too comfy though, I should have gotten a proper office chair. I started getting neck problems on that after prolonged Starcraft sessions.

Now as I am 90% a laptop gamer:

- 70% of the time from the couch, laptop on the sofa table. Not very ergonomic I must say, it must be bad for my back, hunched over like that.
- 28% of the time lying on the couch, with a wireless mouse and keyboard, either staring at the laptop screen or the 47" HDTV on the wall.
- 2% somewhere else, usually on the desk.

But at this very moment, I'm abroad and sitting on the floor legs crossed, the laptop on a small "kid's table" which is elevated like 30 cm from the floor. I'm surprised how comfortable and ergonomic this position actually is, we westerners have forgotten how to sit on the floor...

cmdr_flashheart: and my butt is starting to hurt. I'd like to play a game, but I'm getting tired after just twenty mins of sitting. What do :c
For that, two things I've noticed helping on the desk:

- Softer chair. Or put a pillow under your ass.

- Get a proper office chair that has a "free rocking chair" mode, and use that. I use that free rocking at my work quite often, and I think it helps to stop both butt-hurting and lower back problems. You'll have to be very close to the desk then though, or have extra-long arms when you are rocking back and forth.

I play games on my laptop, on my couch with a recliner, in front of the TV. I always have a TV program running, which I barely pay attention to, while gaming on my laptop sitting my lazy ass on my couch in full recline. I have my trackball, remote control and beverage of choice on my end table.
I still have the computer desk I used to use back when I had a desktop, but I remember having back and neck pains after playing due to my bad posture. No more muscle pains with my current gaming setup.
Never had any problems with sitting at the desk. I opt for one of those exercise balls instead of an actual chair. It keeps both my posture and abdominal muscles in check. :)

Me too. I put a big tea tray upside down on the bed, put a cooler pad above it, and then my gaming notebook on top of it.

I feel lazy enough reclining on my couch. I can't think how I would feel playing the game in bed. I think if I did that I would be one step away from using a bed pan and moving a fridge into my bedroom. And a slippery slope that would be...next thing you know I have a heart attack and rescue will be cutting a hole in my wall to remove my fat 1,000LB ass out of the house.

Nah, when I play games, I don't eat and the fridge is downstairs in my house, and so being a lazy gamer I would not so often make a trip downstairs to fetch something to eat or drink. But while I am a lazy gamer, the toilet happens to be just adjacent to the bedroom so I am not THAT lazy enough not to go there, hence a bed pan is thankfully not required :-)

Thanks for the advice, it's quite helpful, actually.

The only time I play games on the desktop PC is when they can't be played with a controller/on the TV, and I spend less time playing those games because I get tired and bored from sitting at the desk; it feels too much like work because I use the desktop for work/study as well.

The other problem is that I don't have enough fat to cushion my ass properly, so I do use a pillow; regardless, good advice.

I also have a laptop for gaming, but I just play a few point-n-clicks or non-serious games on it, and like some other members, I also use the laptop on the bed. You mentioned playing games on the couch, but try playing on your bed; it's quite comfortable and convenient, if you're not averse to snacking on your bed, which I know some people loathe ^^

But I think it might help me to get a more comfortable chair, one with armrests and everything. I selected my current chair because it allows me to sit cross-legged on it without making my legs feel trapped under any armrests, but yeah, this chair is not the most ergonomic option: [http://www.containerstore.com/shop?productId=10030137&N=&Ntt=chair

I was half-joking with this thread, but I got some good advice, so I appreciate it, thanks.

You had no back support? No wonder you were uncomfortable :D
