gooberking: Just looked over the list of canceled shows. Most of them I had never heard, of but I was a little shocked when I saw "Awake" on the list.

I have been watching the show and I guess I thought it was too good to get canceled because the thought just never occurred to me. I hope they post official story spoilers because I want to know what the hell was going on!

I was also a bit dismayed over "Community" being renewed. We were actually big fans of the show in the first two seasons, but this passed season has been(in our circle's opinion) dismal. Save for a couple of shining exceptions only a few episodes managed to register as mildly entertaining. I don't know what went wrong, but its hard to watch a good show start jumping sharks. Harder than to see it go.

So anyone else get their new shows chopped?

Balazs: Community dismal? The last season has been about an 8/10 so far with some completely brilliant episodes. Also, can you name a better sitcom currently on air? (Sorry I'm being a little defensive, but it's one of my all time favorite sitcoms. But I'm geniuely courious.)
I'm going to resurrect this thread just to eat my own words after Thursday night's triple Community whammy. 3 Community episodes on in one night and they were all great. I don't know if the video game episode is for everyone, but it was awesome.

I'll be happy to keep watching if they can keep on like this.

Haha, I loved those episodes too.

Sadly, it seems like this is it for Community. Next season won't have Dan Harmon (creator, showrunner). :\
I'm not entirely sure that the cancellations are bad.

I think the current problem is more of the sort of TV networks failing to see the general TV landscape when it comes to viewership differs hugely from what it was 7-10 years ago. For a show to gather 20-30M viewers is almost impossible nowadays unless it's a huge event (The Superbowl), yet the execs don't seem to understand that and therefore axe shows that are doing well for today's standards but not for 2005.

I also think a huge change in how TV is produced (And distributed, but I won't get into that part!) is needed. Part of the reason for ailing ratings is actually having most shows have 22-24 episode seasons where half the season is filler. Having smaller seasons, like the ones in the UK would help this and retain viewership though the overall cost would be higher (Cost per series would drop but the cost per TV season would rise since it's require producing many more series). In the end it all comes down to a bunch of people in suits who know nothing of the market demanding their investments return more money :P

That's the reason I watch The Sci-fi channel and Faux 8
I think it's just a saturated market. There are tons of good shows in all genres if you count DVD and online distribution. Shows that are five, ten, twenty and even thirty years old are still being bought and watched today and for a new show to make a mark it have to be truly exceptional.

And for a show to be that it needs four things.
1: A good writer for the script and story.
2: The whole story need to be mostly written before it starts filming.
3: Good directors and producers. Sadly this seems to have been forgotten.
4: A network willing to stick with it during the inevitable drops in popularity. If a show have a wholly written story from the beginning to it's end it will have parts that not everyone like.

Otherwise you could come up with a brand new concept that catch every ones fancy but boy is that hard. :P
