Just looked over the list of canceled shows. Most of them I had never heard, of but I was a little shocked when I saw "Awake" on the list.

I have been watching the show and I guess I thought it was too good to get canceled because the thought just never occurred to me. I hope they post official story spoilers because I want to know what the hell was going on!

I was also a bit dismayed over "Community" being renewed. We were actually big fans of the show in the first two seasons, but this passed season has been(in our circle's opinion) dismal. Save for a couple of shining exceptions only a few episodes managed to register as mildly entertaining. I don't know what went wrong, but its hard to watch a good show start jumping sharks. Harder than to see it go.

So anyone else get their new shows chopped?
I remember reading Awake was axed about a month or so ago, but I was already pretty sure it would.
Most of the shows I find interesting get axed because they're not predictable enough for the general (in this case, American) public, the BBC ones usually do go on but with one episode every ten years.
It's a sad state of affairs which unfortunately carries over to every form of media.

gooberking: ... "Awake" on the list. ...
Ugh. I just saw the first episode last night. I guess I should stop now, how lame.
This is why I never watch a show during its season run. I always wait until the season is aired and then watch all episodes of the season. By then I know if it got another season so I know what to expect.

Seriously. It's getting downright evil. 90% of the shows that are actually good and well made gets axed before they are done because Average Joe can't be bothered with a formula/format that he's not used to. Argh!
Where is the list of canceled shows?

Well here is a list.

Don't know if there's a list somewhere. I read the shows forums on IMDB. The fans there are usually quick to find if the show are cancelled or not.

Edit:
It's a little sad that the only show I watch on that list is Fringe. And I already knew it was renewed.

Hardly applies to this crop though. An arguement could be made for Awake, sure, but most of the cancelled shows this season are terrible.

Also OP is crazy for the Community comment. Not as good as season 2, sure, but still better than most comedies on the air, except maybe Parks and Rec and Archer.

Community dismal? The last season has been about an 8/10 so far with some completely brilliant episodes. Also, can you name a better sitcom currently on air? (Sorry I'm being a little defensive, but it's one of my all time favorite sitcoms. But I'm geniuely courious.)

Anyway, Community getting only 13 episodes and the renewal of Whitney (an absolutely horrible show for NBC) are my biggest disappointments. Thankfully no show I watch every week got cancelled, except of course House, but that's a different case.

I'll take your word for that. The only shows I follow now are Fringe and Haven. Haven't found any other that I like. So I'm in luck with both of them being renewed. :)

gameon: Wow, Alcatraz is cancelled already. It had Sam Neill and the guy that was Hurley from Lost. What reason did they give for finishing that?
Nobody watched it and it was kind of bad.

Well, nobody with a Nielsen box watched it.
Online, torrents, VHS/Beta/other, etc may be another story altogether ;)

There are several of us that went into this season hoping community would continue its greatness, but all of us have spent week after week feeling like something is off. The multi-time line episode was brilliant and so was the foosball one, but its not felt the same. It almost feels like the writers got arrogant and stopped really trying or something, and there have been way too many instances of them recycling their great ideas. The second paintball episode was quite good put in a bottle, but the fact that they already used that idea the season before made it feel kinda lazy even though it was respectfully well done. I know that was end of season two but it seem to be the fist sign that something had changed.

Then came the reuse of the blanket fort, which was brilliant originally but made us wonder if they were just plain out of good ideas. Halloween was an OK episode, but in previous years the Halloween episodes were some of their strongest episodes. It just felt all year like someone's heart wasn't into it anymore, and there were many times we just weren't laughing at all. I'm betting we will keep watching, but we are all hoping to get the magic back.

As for there being a better sitcom, Big Bang Theory has been quite consistent. I wasn't sure about it originally but its been solid through its run. Also Happy Endings. Sitcoms are tough though. They rarely work.

I get what you're saying. Something has been definitely different this season, and the average quality of episodes has been somewhat lower, but there were quite a few brilliant episodes. I mean, the multiple timeline one, Halloween, foosball, Pillows and Blankets (yes, they reused an idea, but it's still better than most sitcoms doing the same stuff every episode), the Law & Order one or this week's.

Some thing definitely got progressively worse over seasons (especially Chang's character, in my opinion), but as far as I'm concerned, it's still by far the best sitcom out there.

TBBT better? The first 2-3 seasons were good, but after the focus shifted from lovable geeks to completely implausible relationship stuff, the quality plummeted. I still watch it, but it's far from great. Happy Endings is awesome, though!

Maybe you should ship them several tons of peanuts....
