Prydeless: We can also look forward to Monopoly and Candy Land and Ouja Board!
The crazy thing is that your not making that up.
Did you all see (a while back) the (not-real) youtube trailer for the 'mines' movie? That looked good in an LOL way.

Agree that the Battleships 'based on the board-game' angle is boll*cks (and obviously just publicity for them both) but it might just be stupid enough to catch on DVD.
Estimated $200 million budget on IMDB.

At least they were able to incorporate the makeout scenes and alien spaceships from the board game.
But.... why?

I personally cannot wait for the Scrabble feature film. Those letters are plotting, man. I tell you.
Remove the Battleship title and it should be able to stand on its own as a interesting twist on alien invasion. It seems the navy is trapped in that bubble. And if they win the alien game they will leave.

I enjoy the concept but, it doesn't need the "Battleship" name...

Ok i admit this is kind of weird to base a film on this game. I am just waiting on thm shouting D6 -miss and seeing big white pegs apear on the sea.

Well least the made the enemies different.
For those wondering why this board game along with Candy Land, Monopoly, and Ouija are being turned into movies, it's because NBC Universal have no choice. After Transformers made butt loads of money, they had brain farts and went to Hasbro to lock up deals to make movies based on them. Hasbro has a clause that gets them a lot of money if the movies aren't made.

That makes sense, even though that seems like a weird clause to put into you licensing deal.
*shrug*

Trailer looks awesome.
Nah.. No Jürgen Prochnow in a movie about blindly firing at sea = fail.

Don't rule out a makeshift strategy board that plays exactly like the board game. In the trailer, all their electronics go down.

Real question is how they'll use the line "You sunk my battleship."

Sung by an epic choir LotR-style, while the ship is sinking?

grviper: Hasn't somebody obtained a license to make a movie based on the Rubik's Cube recently?
and [url=http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0285492/]Cube 2: Hypercube aren't enough?
Not necessarily referencing Mr. Rubik's creation, but it's similar enough.
