A hack and slash hidden gem.

Heretic Kingdoms: The Inquisition (also known as: Kult: Heretic Kingdoms), a sleek isometric fantasy action RPG with many interesting gameplay ideas, set in a vast gritty world deprived of hope, but filled with monsters and dangers, is available 50% off today on GOG.com. That's only $2.99 for the next 24 hours.

At the first glance, the sword seemed like nothing specia. Yes, the craftsmanship was excellent, and you could see that its creator went to great lengths to make the weapon look as ominous as a piece of steel can get, but there were many similar blades across the land. If anything, this one looked a little bit rusty and battered up. It was only as she reached for the hilt, when a slight vibration could be noticed. Like an electric charge hitting her hand. For a moment, the blade seemed to be gleaming--barely noticeable inner shine. What she thought to be flakes of rust shined in crimson red, like fresh blood embedded into the metal itself. But then, nothing special happened. She just stood there, holding the sword, looking at it in silence. Nobody else would even notice, but she knew. In her hand, rested the blade that tasted the blood of god. The Godslayer.

Heretic Kingdoms: The Inquisition is a classic action-rpg that has the ambition of delivering some original ideas an making your experience unique. It makes sure that upon completion, you won't just feel like you've completed another generic hack-and-slash. It succeeds by the means of excellent storytelling, dynamic gameplay, and some original RPG mechanics. If you are a fan of the genre, but somehow you managed to overlook this title in the past, you're up for one satisfying experience! The GOG.com edition of the game comes with a full MP3 soundtrack.

Adventure awaits, so go on--discover the land that needs hope and decide if it deserves it in Heretic Kingdoms: The Inquisition, for only $2.99 on GOG.com, until Tuesday, March 18, at 10:59AM GMT.

Tarhiel: Wait... there is a sequel to this game?
In progress :)

phaolo: I like the screenshots, but is this game worth playing?
Some reviews rate it only 6-7/10 (bad progression & balance, buggy) and I already have tons of Diablo clones already..
I played through the whole game on Windows 7 64 bit and I had nary a crash or any weird bugs happen so take that for what you will :)

It's not really a classic Diablo clone as you don't need to hunt for gear as much as you would in a Diablo clone. In Heretic Kingdoms it's attunements that you are looking for and all you need to do is wield an item for a while until you unlock a specific attunement. On top of that, the way you heal yourself is more along the lines of using blood points and such.

All in all, I know I had fun with the game :)

Treasure: This one perhaps ?

Ontopic- I bought enough games already in the Irish sale, so I'll wait for a higher discount, although this game has been in my wishlist for ages. My backlog is starting to gain in size!
Thanks, that's the one I was looking for :D

AndersCM: To everyone that has played Kult (Inquisition) or that is going to play it:
I am really interested in your feedback on the game. What did you enjoy the most, what did you dislike and, most importantly, what would you like to see in the sequel? :)
(I played the entire game all the way through save for an optional area that's only revealed towards the end of the game.)

I enjoyed the blood points mechanic so that I didn't have to guzzle potions all day long.

I liked the overall theme and the fact that the main character was, for the most part, believable as she behaved very much like someone who didn't get out much and had a slight touch of fanatical zeal towards realizing her end goal. There need to be more believable characters.

The fact that there wasn't such a gear dependency in the game was great as I hate having to constantly compare tons of gear. Kult was also very informative with tool tips but without resorting to the equivalent of flashing neon arrows pointing towards an objective or pointing out a game mechanic, which is really nice, imho.

I didn't find much to dislike, personally, but then again since I work here my opinion is biased :)

AndersCM: Really nothing to criticize? I find that hard to believe :D

It's interesting that you mention the importance of items. In the huge world of isometric RPGs, Diablo is definitely the heavy weight and it seems like their end game is solely based on items.
I make it a rule to keep any criticism of a game on our site to myself lest I am misunderstood :)
