It is. As I said, I think there will be a few sore faces and possibly broken hands/desks when the method is revealed.

Clue #3: There is a character different from all the rest which not only tells you which direction to go, but also betrays how many wear a mask.

The clues actually (coincedently) do work for both codes, but only the bold one will redeem because the unbolded one was a mistake ;P

OK, so after talking with xyem I can confirm that the clues work for both codes.
However, I still find the bolded one MUCH easier to decode.

xyem, i don't quite understand the "mask" part on your 3rd clue. Is that some sort of idiom or metaphor?
