This was an amazing movie. At first, the whole nature you probably saw in the trailers about not wanting them here will make you feel like the director's got his head stuck far up his own ass. However, thirty minutes into the movie, it becomes much more than that. The only true disappointing part was the ending, which could have been so much more if they were to do...something, I don't really know.
Neill Blomkamp's surreal style will be familiar to anyone who's seen his short films, and this one doesn't disappoint. I see big projects in this director's future. Hope those movie houses are sorry now for not putting his Halo treatment into production...

I thought I heard a rumor about Spielberg getting the Halo movie treatment....

I saw it and loved every minute. Watch the trailer then the movie and youll say "THAT is the main character?!"
Insane weapons, that... well I wont spoil it.
But go see this movie now! :D
oh and what was disappointing at the end? I thought it was either a cliffhanger or was just supposed to be a figure it out yourself kind of ending.

Spielberg IS remaking Chan-wook-Park's venerable Old Boy. (And he's casting Will Smith in the lead.) I wonder what makes these directors feel they must remake films that are already brilliant enough left alone.

District 9, I may go down to the local cinema when it's on. Relatively cheap there compared to places closer to the city.

Not every remake sucks you know.

I never claimed that it was, but I will admit some partial bias.
I've yet to find one single remake I like*, and I dislike the hollywoodisation of non-english (or even English) films.
*Where the intention is a deliberate remake... There may be films that went across, but most semblance of the original is gone.

I found Rob Zombies Halloween remake better than the original. And I never said you did, just tossing a comment around like a Thai Prostitute.

I briefly saw a preview of District 9, and it looks pretty cool.
Is it by Peter Jackson? I can't remember.. I don't know whether I admire or hate Peter Jackson, his Hollywood stuff has been (in my eyes) a little pretentious, but "Brain Dead" was awesome.
Anyway, I might check it out, but I'll take the caveat into consideration as I really feel cheated when there isn't a compelling ending. "Signs" and "The Day The Earth Stood Still", I'm looking at you.

The movie seems really exciting, can't wait to see it (not here before september 16th in France...).
But I admit that, while watching the trailer, the base concept story of the movie reminded me another movie a lot: Alien Nation.

It's not the ending so much as the back half. I didn't like the fact that it took them so long to get that one guy. They just kept dragging it, so you would be yelling at the screen "Get him! Get him! He's shooting at you, so why not turn around and shoot him back?"
It's produced by Peter Jackson. Since the studios refused Neill Blomkamp and Jackson the Halo movie, they decided to do a movie that Jackson funded and Blomkamp directed and wrote with another guy.
I actually hated the remake. Part of the magic of the original was you had no idea why the hell this little boy decided to murder his family, and go after others when he got older. In Rob Zombie's version, he told you exactly why he became a serial killer, and it's a lame, lame reason. Also, I didn't like the fact that the character Jamie Lee Curtis played in the original was such an unlikable character in the new one.

I went with my dad and the kids I used to babysit :P (11,13) and their dad. So yea it shouldn't be too bad... theres incredible amounts of gore and grossness, and they drop the f bomb 100 times a second, but they say it with an english accent so it sounds like "fawk"

Yeah, basing his killing spree on the (Something SOmething Triad...I forgot what it was.) was kind of lame, but I never did like Jamie Lee Curtis.

Oh, he only produced it? That's all right, then.
I'm not familiar with Blomkamp, but it does look like an interesting movie.
