Gamersgate Downloader was so slow.
I'm currently downloading Metro 2033 for 3 nights now. There is no Pause or Continue button in the downloader, and if you close it without reading the notice box, you might lose all your download data.

I wish Gog would add games like these to the catalog soon.

MonstaMunch: Snip
Restrictions are only at point of purchase. Once a game is purchased or gifted to you, it will be playable where-ever you are. Unless the game specifically prevents that. But GamersGate themselves will not deny you access to anything on your account.

+1. I came here partly for the old games (I found gog while looking for a way to buy Rayman), and mainly because it's the only site I'm aware of where, as a resident of Cambodia, I can legally buy games. I also love the way they sell their games, where you actually end up feeling like you own something.

However, I do love newer games as well, and it will be great to see some here.

Thank you very much for this useful info.

bansama: They have regional restrictions, but the restrictions differ to that of Steam, for example. Such as, while I can't buy SEGA games on Steam, I can on GamersGate. Recently, they've had far better deals than Steam has too. I personally find them to be a fairly good service and have used them far more since they dumped their client.

MonstaMunch: Sorry to bring back such an old thread, but I've just stumbled across gamer's gate, and would like to check before I give them any money whether I'll be able to download and play games if after I've paid for them (unlike Steam....). Their site says "anyone, anywhere", but in my experience, "anywhere" often seems to exclude Cambodia. Then I found this post, which says there ARE regional restrictions, so want to check before I make the purchase.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Edit: I do still plan on using GOG for almost everything, as the way they sell products is clearly preferable, just the issue came up because I saw that they have Fantasy Wars for $1.99 today at gamers gate, and it's on my wishlist here.
The only case of regional restrictions I experienced (in Germany) was Bioshock, and it just showed something like "not available in your region" instead of the product page. I was able to buy, download and play Commandos 2, which is not available in Germany via steam (not sure why, maybe swastikas?). I thought impulse wouldn't sell it in Germany either, but I just checked and it seems they do...
I don't have that much experience with their download speed (my connection maxes out at about 300kb/s anyway), and never emailed their support, so no idea about that. I see it mainly as an opportunity to grab some games in sales which are not available on steam/GOG (and of course, GG does not force you to be online for most things, like steam).
Well, I'm now intrigued enough that I just bought the game anyway (afterall, it's only $1.99). It allowed me to make the purchase with my Visa that was issued by a Cambodian bank. I'll find out in an hour when I get home from work if it'll let me do the download. :)

hehe, they even let you buy Dead Island from Germany (okay, without telling that you are not able to activate it on steam without breaking the usage rules steam set, as the game is banned here).

As I've said in other posts; Steam allowed me to make the purchase, then when I went to download my new games they told me I had to go live somewhere else. That applies to all games with them :(

That's why I've been so excited about finding GOG - so far I've gotten everything I've paid for, and have absolutely nothing to complain about.

Interesting. Did you get a refund?

Cleidophoros: Interesting. Did you get a refund?
No. It's one of the only instances in my life where I've fought hard to get a refund for such a small amount of money, but I did, and didn't get it. They said it was my fault for not reading the ToS more carefully. I still think that's nonsense, if they can prevent me from playing it where I am, then they can prevent me from paying for it too.

The result has been that I now check sites very carefully before spending anything with them, and so far GOG has been the only one that works.

I have seen region restrictions on Steam; I can see some game pages with the browser but can't with the client. But in the end they just refuse to sell it to me. Never heard anything like your case before, thanks fo rthe info.

In fairness, it was a couple of years ago, it's possible things have changed since then, but regardless, I paid for a product and they refused to give it to me.

Also, you can buy games unavailable in your region by using proxy.

Yes, but if I was going to simply break the ToS, I might as well go the full way and just buy the game at the local CD market for $1.25

Fortunately, I've found GOG so I don't need to do that :D

I don't thinjk this is forbidden in ToS but of course, it's your choice and I am fine with it. I don't think buying game, which is directly unavailable in your region because some person somewhere thought it's fun to deny it to you, is something wrong. ;-)
Incase anyone living in a non steam supported country is wondering how this turned out, this is the reply I got from gamer's gate:

"We do sometimes get this problem with certain Steam-connected games that have some kind of country block. Unfortunately, we haven't found a way of seeing which games might be concerned as of yet. What I can give you is the guarantee that if any one of your bought games turn out to have this problem, you will get a full refund.

Have a great day!"

I'm still going to use gog for everything I can, but it's nice to know there are other places I can get new games too :)
