I love the quirky point-and-click games like Machinarium.

Amanita makes wonderfully quirky point-and-click puzzle adventures, and some of them are FREE to play on their site! Games such as Samorost 1, Rocketman, Questionaut, The Quest for the Rest, and Osada can all be played online! They have flash-demos of their other games, too -- Samorost 2, Machinarium, and Botanicula (these last two are available here at GOG!)

Some more games of this type:

The Tiny Bang Story (VOTE to get it here)
Lilly Looking Through (already here)

And then there's Morphopolis (VOTE to get it here):

Morphopolis is a visually stunning point and click adventure inspired by Machinarium and The Tiny Bang Story.

Morphopolis takes the player on a lucid and fantastical journey of transformation and discovery through a beautiful and unique natural environment.

You will take the role of an aphid grub as you embark on a narrative driven adventure to rescue your companion. Undergoing metamorphosis and parasitically inhabiting ever larger insects your interaction with the scenery develops as each chapter progresses and the scale of the world increases.

Are there any other games like this that I should add to the list?
What about The Inner World?

And Primordia?

I also like The Night of the Rabbit

Nice! I got The Inner World during the Pot of Gold promo, haven't had a chance to try it, yet.

Primordia' and Night of the Rabbit have been on my wishlist, but I didn't realize that they were the same kind of puzzle-adventure as the ones I listed in my last post!

I just got Puzzle Agent, and I haven't had a chance to try it yet, but would that be something like the type of gameplay I'm talking about?
inner world is very like machinarium both in terms of visuals and in terms of the atmosphere.. another game you might want to try is the sam and max series of games.. episode 1 and 2 are quite good and i havent played 3

That's great, voljin, thank you! I even own them, already! :D

I'd strongly recommend Journey of a Roach, and, to an extent, even though it's not a point-and-click game, Incredipede.

There are loads of excellent point-and-click adventure games out there (Primordia, the Deponia trilogy, The Whispered World, Gemini Rue, Kentucky Route Zero, The Cat Lady, etc.), but from what I gather you're looking for more expermental puzzle point-and-click games that forego the 'adventure' part, so I'll stick to those three suggestions.

Oh, and Ether One just came out, as well, you should give it a try, it's a first-person perspective adventure thriller puzzle game that has great Myst influence and it has been received with high praise all around.
Oh yes, I'd forgotten Journey of a Roach! I have it, and it's kind of like a 3-D version of what I'm talking about. It's a ton of fun :D Gomo is on my wishlist, already :D Incredipede looks like a straight-up puzzle game -- kind of hard to figure out from the screens, but it does look interesting!

Yes, it's on my wishlist! I noticed it as soon as it released!
Well, you're making it kind of hard for us to find games you don't already own or have your eyes upon! :-P

How about The Neverhood? Not sure how you'll get that one, though, at least... legally. (If, by any remote chance, you don't happen to already own a copy of it! ;-D )

No, I've never heard of this one before. Seeing as how I have a lot of games on backlog, I'm not in a hurry to track down a copy, but it is interesting! Thanks!

I was hoping the thread would be helpful for others who love this game type -- not just something to help ME find games! lol~
You'd probably really enjoy The Book of Unwritten Tales (there are two but I've only played #1 so far).

Got 'em both, thank you!

I've been waiting (hoping) for Violett to come to GOG, but in the meantime, it's been released at Big Fish today, where I have codes for free games. My forum folk are saying it's a lot like Machinarium/Botanicula, et. al, so I plan to try it tonight! Well... I'm hoping to try it tonight, anyway ;p

Will report back, but in the meantime:
GOG wishlist for Violett

Wow, thanks for the heads up, this look really cool, and right up my alley! Kind of reminds me of a less creepy Fran Bow (funded and still in development, but you can try the demo).

[EDIT] It goes without saying, but I obviously voted for Violett on GOG.

Wow, that looks interesting... but super-dark. That's some VERY serious subject matter!

Oh yay~! :D
Well, what is it about these games that you love? What's the common denominator? I don't know Morphopolis (and at the moment the website seems down for me), but from what I see those you list are more or less non-verbal puzzle adventures - is that what you're after? Because then some of the other suggestions like Inner World might be too chatty for you? Many other p&c adventures have a stronger focus on conversations.

Puzzle Agent is more like Professor Layton than Machinarium, most of the puzzles aren't really environmental puzzles like in the Amanita games, they're "puzzle book" puzzles inserted into a story that would probably work without them most of the time. If that doesn't bother you, you might also like Lume, but it's very short.

Incredipede is non-verbal but not really an adventure game, just a simple physics puzzle / platformer divided into short one-screen levels, in which you have to collect fruit before reaching the finish line. There's not much story to it.

I guess the common denominator would be the way the adventures are presented. It's a feeling more than anything, though the non-verbal component may, indeed, be what makes them (the ones I listed) feel the way they do!

I do love chatty adventure games (the more story, the better!) but for this thread, I was looking for games like the ones Amanita puts out :)
