Adzeth: A year ago I was so stressed whether my pre-ordered Collector's Edition would come on the first day. Luckily I was one of the first pre-orderers and the shop didn't mess up so I got it, and I played it for 3 days straight (with sleeping, eating, and an occasional walk). I'm still playing it, and even though I'm pretty bad (silver league FTW), I like it.

Beating the last stage on Brutal was so hard, but then the game bugged and it turned easy as my nightmare got stuck on a ramp, so I didn't even have to use the stage specialty once (spoiler free-ish way to say it). I have such fond memories of the 3 times I played the campaign through during the first 2 weeks.

I really love Starcraft 2 :p
and zerglings, climbing up your ramps snatching your builders up.
No kidding - that campaign is incredibly well-crafted, and the moment I got my last campaign cheevment my first thought was "What do I do now? I know, I'll play some SC2 campaign.... oh, wait."

Can't wait for Heart of the Swarm, although I'm disappointed they cut back the mission count to 20 when they said before it was going to be around 27.

Fred_DM: i see that some of the same people that can't stop raging about Steam apparently have no problem with the fact that StarCraft 2 requires you to register with Blizzard's own digital platform - Battle.net - and activate your copy. interesting...
Who said we liked it? Complaining about it was so last year. What would be the point of trolling this thread for?

Starcraft 2 multiplayer I enjoy a lot. Starcraft 2 single player campaign I hate, hate, HATE beyond belief. Such a giant step backwards compared to the original.

Boring characters (even the returning ones barely resemble their SC1 selves), omnipresent plot holes, downright horrid writing, plot cliched to the max, AWFUL voice acting when it comes to the Protoss (they used to sound truly "alien", somewhat angelic even, passionate... to add insult to injury, whoever voiced Zeratul in the sequel should have never been hired in the first place - what he did is cringe-worthy). Most importantly, SC2 feels just childish, SC1 took itself and the players seriously.

Mission design is excellent, but I simply can't force myself to overlook the stupidity of what Blizzard came up with in regard to the plot. It's so bad, so pathetic it gets in the way of the actual gameplay and enjoyment of the campaign for me.

Even the cutscenes aren't that interesting, feel too Michael Bayish - flashy, but with no style or substance.

Show me a single cutscene in SC2 that can touch the sheer brilliance of these:

I do have to agree that the singleplayer was not what I expected. Having bought it looking forward to singleplayer and the story considering how amazing Warcraft 3 was (didn't get to play the original SC) it does somewhat lacklustre. The multiplayer on the other hand. There is nothing quite like Starcraft in the e-sports scene. So damn good!
Since I totally loved the original Starcraft + Brood Wars (single-player, never played it online), I was very excited when I heard SC2 is about to come out! Can't wait!

...until I heard that they decided to divide the game to three releases, first releasing only the Terran campaign. As the Terran campaign (story + race) was the least interesting of the three in the original game, I decided to skip the game for now. Maybe I'll buy a SC2 compilation (trilogy) after all the three episodes have been released.

That decision became even clearer when it was revealed that SC2 had online authentication for single-player, so better to buy it only when I really intend to start playing it right away. And since online authentication makes it a rental game, I wouldn't want to pay full price for it either.

So let's get back to this in maybe 2015 or so. :) I don't mind if it is already an "old" game at that point, I'm sure I'll enjoy it then just as much as I'd enjoy it now.

In the meantime, I'll try to kill time with some older RTS games. Currently Cossacks 1-2 and Rise of Nations 1-2 seem like worth a try, as soon as I've completed KKND Extreme and KKND2...

Hey, at least I just wrote that I have an issue with it! One of the reasons I'm definitely postponing getting the game, and also I expect to get it at lower price also.

I'm happy though that I don't mind playing older games too, so I might still enjoy SC2 even in 2015 (or whenever I decide to eventually buy it).

Not to mention the great music in SC. Just to show how much I've enjoyed SC, I've had the Protoss victory theme as my phone ringing tone for years now.

Maybe that's because Starcraft 2 is a great game while the others are kinda meh. :p
