(I'm not sure if I needed dashes in the title, but whatever.)

Just me being curious. I was wondering what titles here on GOG were really difficult to find elsewhere online, ones that people can basically only get by purchasing them in physical form from eBay/Amazon or downloading illegally. A chunk of the games on here can be found relatively easily on Steam, Origin, Amazon downloads (of course, not necessarily tweaked for modern systems) , so what could you say GOG has almost exclusively?

(Side Q: are LBA 1 and 2 still exclusives here, or are they now being sold elsewhere?)

I think Blood 1 is only found here, but I may be wrong. Searching for it is how I found GOG back in the day.

EDIT: I don't think the Blake Stone games are found elsewhere, well except for 3D Realms' store which charges an extra $2.99 for its "Extended Download Service" or $9.99 to get it on CD. Nice... /sarcasm

I guess maybe "Rise of the Triad" also...

For little big adventure 1 & 2 soft copies, they are only sold in GOG.

For hard copies, you could relatively easily find LBA 1 playstation version on the internet for cheap.
As for the pc version, it wouldn't be recommended to get the fars copies, coz you'll have a hard time making them work on a newer pc with a new OS.
(Installing several patches, praying that the sound works etc...)

So your best best woud indeed be GOG unless you wanna play the 1st LBA on playstation, it has some bugs fixed as it came out 2-3 years later, but the graphix are much worse. (lesser resolution)

All i can think of, im sure there are more... possible the old dungeon crawlers and RTS games but these were the instabuys do to rarity and inability to find cheaply elsewhere

GOG and GamersGate are, more or less, purchasing rights to resell games that were put aside in the nineties by ...erm...Software Preservation Societies.

As well some of the games retrieved were retrieved from the original publishers themselves who kept the data on file.

There's a third site that does this but I forget their name.

GOG has more than GG when it comes to this old abandoned stuff but you'll find the site host different titles. ie; GG has Daikantana and Guilty Gear Isuka.

As for the two Little Big Games I haven't seen them anywhere else other than a site here some guy was offering the old preserved copies that he polished up and made installer executables for.

Some Abandonware sites have Little Big one but they've had the FMVs ripped out.

But obtaining it through GOG removes the question of being in legal possession of it or not, all the bugs, viruses and original DRM have been professionally removed and through cooperation with the original titles holders, GOG can acquire and reassemble missing data (such as the mpg's and soundtracks once originally extracted.).

I'm not saying that all GOGs are warez but some titles that we buy now a days from digi sites - I don't think the data would still be available right now if kids in the nineties hadn't extracted that data and put it aside before some publishers and developers fell out of business.

In a nut shell - Most PC games are out there somewhere unless they were so horrid no one ever cared to copy them two decades ago.

Yeah, I think so too. But, imo, GOG is better designed than GamersGate (less cluttered, too), and is significantly better designed/has a more up-to-date style than DotEmu. (And what does DotEmu's logo even mean? I don't get it.) Off-topic, but good job here! (Good hierarchy on the front page, with strong dominant images showing off the latest releases and then lesser stuff below that. And the subtle gradients are good, too. :)

GOG only sells those Premium Modules that came with the Diamond Edition (that is, the "Kingmaker Expansion Pack") and that shouldn't be hard to come by (both NWN Diamond and the Kingmaker bundle are still sold on Amazon).

It's those Premium Modules that were only available for download and only with DRM that are hard to come by in a legal way, and still so, since they're not included in GOG's package.

I think that Sierra's Quest series and the Ultima titles (VII, VIII and Underworld 1 & 2) are more likely to fall in this category (the Sierra games were even taken down from most Abandonware sites due to a request by the license holders).

Ceaser 3 and it's'sister' game the new Zeus/posiden release are almost impossible to come by. same with dungeon keeper 1&2.

The very hardest games to find on GOG, are the free ones.

Someone mentioned Caesar III, this one will be a bit easier :-)
