I recently bought a NAS device with a download service thinking that I could download all my games from GOG straight onto it but it won't download any files from my account at GOG. I am assuming that this is due to an authentication request problem.

There are NAS devices out there with a download service that allows for a user to input the authentication data to allow these downloads to work. My question is has anyone tried downloading files from GOG onto such a NAS device and does it work?

I am happy to buy a different NAS device that does the job, but really I would prefer to know that it does it before I buy it (once bitten and all that!)

Thanks

If you are required to give a link to your NAS device, the link also requires a session ID. If you can use the NAS device to login to GOG first, then a link like this should do the trick, otherwise I'd suggest taking a look at Sude's download manager, since he seems to have documented how to add the extra details to the edgecast link.
Can you mount the NAS to a drive letter and then tell the GOG downloader to store the files on that drive? Because that's probably going to be the easiest way of doing it.

Just be aware that SMB is prone to data corruption issues, I"m not sure why MS was so incompetent with the error detection and correction to the protocol.
Thanks for the responses guys.

Yes I need to add a link to the device but I can't use the NAS device to login to GOG.

What I am wanting to do is download the files directly to the NAS without having to go through the computer. Thus allowing me to download my files overnight without having to leave the PC on.

I think my problem is that I bought a cheap NAS device with relatively simplistic options etc and for it to do what I want it to I am going to have to buy a better one. Authentication request / session IDs just didn't occur to me until I tried to use it!

I am thinking of getting a QNAP but wondered if it will do the trick, though the write up seems to suggest it does.

JMich - I'm not sure what Sude's download manager is?
I use Synology NAS at home and it doesn't have any tools enabling GOG download too. I tried it today.

Sude is a user here on GOG. He has written a linux download manager, which can be found here. Take a look at the API documentation and see if you can create the needed cookies, or if you can use the downloader as is.
Thanks JMich, I will look into that, right now it looks way over my head!

Mivas, I thought the Synology NAS boxes looked like they were capable with a way to input account data, but I did only scan through a user manual I found on the internet.
