Independence War 2: Edge of Chaos, while not commercially successful (such is the fate of many fine games of this near-forgotten genre), remains one of the greatest space sims of all time.
Known also as I-War 2, Independence War 2: Edge of Chaos is a space combat simulator and the sequel to the original [url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/independence_war_deluxe]Independence War. One of the key features of this game, much like with its predecessor, is a complex flight model which takes your ship's inertia into account when changing course or speed. The biggest difference, apart from a more modern and clear user interface, is the addition of free-roaming piracy. The game's story, complex and gripping as usual, is set 100 years after the events of I-War. This time, however, you're not a model Navy captain, but a pirate out for revenge, somewhere on the fringes of colonized space.
