Oddworld just got Stranger...

We visit the epic world of Abe and Munch to meet a third protagonist of the [url=http://www.gog.com/en/catalogue/#all_genres/search/oddworld/]Oddworld universe. Meet the Stranger, a badass bounty hunter. This installment of the series brings us into the spaghetti western setting of Sekto Springs. The main goal of Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath is to gather enough moolah for a mysterious operation that the Stranger has to go through. To fulfill this you’ll hunt a plethora of villains and criminals which, like in any bounty business, are worth more alive than dead. The Stranger is on the trail of the ultimate bounty that would pay for all of his needs: the last of the Steef, a race of guardian creatures that are purportedly extinct...

As in every Oddworld series game, Stranger’s Wrath is oozing with the signature design of Oddworld Inhabitants polish and it is an unique blend of a first person shooter with a third person action adventure game. Either shoot your way with your trusty firearm or traverse the vast plains of Oddworld. Another example of the Oddworld flair for the bizarre lies in the game's weapons. Stranger, as a professional bounty hunter, has a two-barreled crossbow that uses “live” ammo ;) Live being living and lethal. Choose from 9 different critters to lock and load your weapon and unleash living hell on various Outlaws and criminals. This game features an extensive list of upgrades of Stranger’s equipment, such as the crossbow, the munitions, storage capacity and armor upgrades.

Don’t hold back, check out the Just Add Water remake of the classical Oddworld title from the original Xbox. It’s up for grabs DRM-free on GOG.com for $9.99!
Sorry, I should have put a smiling emoticon after "You are wrong." It was meant as light-hearted jest because we all love GOG.

Edit to previous post: You are wrong. :)

Let's get back to praising this game!
Does anybody know if the graphical errors on ATI cards have been resolved?
Just a quick word of warning. If this is anything like the Steam version (which I expect it is) then the controls will be a bit wonky.

The game itself was a minimal port of the Xbox version. Generally it is a great game BUT the controlshave been mapped directly from a controller to a mouse and keyboard. This means the mouse look is very stiff.

By all means get the game, but just expect some idiosyncracies with the controls.
Darn it all. I JUST picked this up at Steam during the recent sale. But to anyone who doesn't have it, this was my favorite game on the original Xbox, so it is highly recommended!
@csmith: Honestly, if I were in ElGreco's shoes, with a comment like yours, I would have packed up my bags and headed off to Steam right away.

The argument that you and others here (FraterPerdurabo, Vault_Boy) present - that by buying it on GOG you are supporting GOG - is circular logic and not a compelling business argument. Why should someone support GOG if they've never bought from it before and don't know what DRM really is?

What would you have said if a Steam fanboi came up to you and told you that the reason you should buy on Steam is because, in doing so, you'd be supporting Steam? That's pretty much how you look to the outside world right now (and yes, I know that such ridiculous arguments are presented by Steam fanbois too)

Also, the soundtrack is probably something that 1% of purchasers will listen to and never touch again. I burn them onto my GOG CD/DVDs with the game for posterity's sake, but to be honest I never listen to them.

Now you don't need to convince me with the DRM-free argument - I buy all my games DRM-free wherever possible. But the fact of the matter is that ElGreco - a potential buyer - has come here with a perfectly valid argument - that Stranger's Wrath is available at the same price on Steam with more features. He obviously doesn't care about - or doesn't understand - the implications of DRM.

Instead of insulting him with insinuations of idiocy, you would do well to explain to him in a much more civil tone just why DRM is a bad thing. The fact that you require an internet connection to install it. The fact that you're fucked if the authentication servers go down. The risk of account hijacking.

The best way to support GOG is to sell the benefits it offers to others effectively.

For my part - I already have the game on Steam because at the time I had no other alternative, but if Stranger's Wrath ever appears very cheap on GOG in the future, I may just pick it up.

serpantino: There is no remake yet, just the port. The HD remake in the works is only confirmed on playstation 3 at the moment.
Not really. The developers have stated over at NeoGAF that the PC version will also receive the "HD" upgrade (for free - provided you own the vanilla, of course).

KainKlarden: i hope Munch gets here too soon.
+1

Munch is the best one from the series for me. Finished it on XBOX 1 and liked it very much. I'd love to replay it again in HD resolution.

Too bad it looks like both MO an SW ports for PC/Steam are quite buggy and have pretty high system requirements (comparing to original XBOX 1 specs and sadly also to my machine used for my Good Old Games collection :-) .
Can we expect to see the big ol' patch that Oddworld Inhabitants have planned on GOG?

serpantino: I got it when it first came out on steam and it never was a very good port to begin with. With that in mind and the fact that it's only recently been released on pc, and the fact that GOG haven't released Munch's Oddysee yet, which is a real mess of a port, it seems a strange (no pun intended) choice. It is a great game on xbox but one that still needs work on pc.

Ullemann: I think they refer to the "Just add Water" remake that came out in 2010.

GOG: can you confirm if this is the remake or just a port from the Xbox verson?

Ok. Thanx :)

Don't put words into my mouth.

I simply said that some people here have an issue with DRM and this has been discussed to death in another thread.
I'm not one of them. I travel a lot and Steam lets me enjoy the occasional game when I feel like almost wherever I might be.
I prefer GoG's business model however, so I will always get a game on GoG rather than get it on Steam. Also, I don't care about achievements.

If you actually read what I wrote you'd see that they are simple retorts to certain things that he erroneously said and that they in no way put forth any personal opinion of mine.

ELGRECO: The STEAM version of Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath has achievements and it's about the same price as GOG

So.....STEAM version > GOG version
And may i ask who the f..k cares about achievements in an old game ?

Well... it is 10$. There doesn't seem to have any advantage to the GoG version than to any other version (Steam has achievements for those interested and GamersGate has a DRM free version). Sure there is the soundtrack but this seems to be a bit light for a release.

The Oddbox has been already a few times on sale since it was released (its regular price is 15$... so 10$ for one game of the pack seems a bit much to me).

Anyway, I have Steam games and I also have DRM-free games from GamersGate & GOG. I don't see the point in buying this as I got the Oddbox on sale.
So... the inflexibility of GOG's price points has got us paying more at the moment. I hope they at least start doing 'The Oddboxx' (for $15) once they release Munch's Oddysee.

Have a look at the current official prices: http://www.oddworld.com/?p=596

Check out the Euroraping! They obviously took these prices from Steam. But yeah, $10 for Stranger's Wrath is in line with everywhere else. I'm more concerned about the fact that the first two games are $6 each here.

ELGRECO: I know it's offtopic..but i will reply....it's NOT ONLY a third party program...it's an online service-community ;)....perhaps the biggest in the world of PC Gaming ;)

svmariscal: Steam, you say? mmm... no, never heard of it.
I have only seen steam at my kitchen and sauna. ;)

Well the $9.99 of GOG is EXACTLY THE SAME(the price) AS Steam and other online services and shops...THAT'S A FACT! doesn't sound much "erroneous" to me...

Well i prefer the achievements>soundtrack because the first EXPANDS the game's REPLAY VALUE and it makes it really rewarding when you earn an achievement for something difficult ;)
