carlosjuero: As for the voice acting, I have seen some YouTube videos on the game - the voice acting reminds me alot of Gothic III... and people seem to like Gothic III just fine right?

stonebro: Eeeeeeeeeeh .......
Mmhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh ....
Eeeeeeeeeeraaaaaaaabaaaaaluba ...
No.

No... what? No to the similarities? or No to people liking Gothic III?
I see similarities (thats opinion of course) and I see plenty of people stating how they like Gothic III (just look in the Gothic forum here on GoG). People bash Gothic III... people bash Two Worlds.
I will wait for a promo to purchase this one, wishlisted.

Hammerfall: I just dont understand what is good about it. It's simply mediocre. It does nothing a million other games don't do.
Maybe I came off a bit strong in my opinion of it's quality but i'm just trying to present another side of the game that many of the posters seem to be hiding. It feels as if any game can be released on GoG and it all of a sudden makes the game good.

trusteft: Most people either love it or hate it. I have played through it twice and loved it. At first I almost stopped after the first hour, too many things going on in the background that you can miss, the more you play the more you see the pure genius of this game.
Of course, you can simply not like it. It's not like everyone has to like it. But at the same time, not everyone has to hate it. My reply was to yours about how we who like it are doing a disservice to others with our comments about how good this game is. Which let's just say I didn't like.
No one is forcing you to like it, just please don't accuse those who like it of doing something bad...

I apologize. Perhaps my words were a bit too much so I take those back. I still don't understand what makes the game so great though. I'm curious to as what the "genius" is in this game.
Not a bad game, not a masterpiece. I already own it and never got to finish it. The graphics are nice, even if the HDR is largely overdone : when the sun reflects on the water, no problem, but when it reflects exactly the same way on a dusty mountain trail, blinding you, now that's a problem.
In fact, the main problem of the game is the combat system: there's a very good idea there, the little back step you can do to avoid being hit. While it is a very interesting feature, tactically speaking, once you've mastered it, you'll hardly get killed by anything. I was able to take down much stronger opponents just by observing their attack patterns, adjusting my back step and my strikes to it. It's funny at the beginng, it is boring very quickly.
It's another matter with ranged weapons-holding ennemies. Those ones will really get on your nerves, as you will very often think their arrows have a heat-seeking device. Sometimes, you won't have any clue how, but they will strike you each time...
The world is nice, yeah, pretty good viewing distance and a clever blur use, like in Gothic III. The thing is, as far as I like Oblivion, I still prefer "non open world" RPGs like The Witcher, Baldur's Gate and the likes. Why ? Because in an open world game, most of the time you can safely ignore the main quest with no consequence at all on the story.
So, Two World is a game worth the try, especially at this price. But it's not a gem, either.

xa_chan: It's another matter with ranged weapons-holding ennemies.

You mean someone has made an RPG where archery isn't shite? I'm now interested. Archers are good in Dragon Age: Origins Awakening but it means playing and importing from Dragon Age: Origins where archers are shit.

jbunniii: I'll wishlist it for now, mainly because I have so many other RPGs I haven't finished yet. But I'm sure I will buy it sometime down the line. Bad voice acting is hardly a deal killer for me. Baldur's Gate had some of the cheesiest voice acting ever heard in a PC game, but it's still a great classic.

Luned: *backs away slowly, with saucer eyes* Ooookkkkkayyyyyyyy... I believe you hold the minority opinion there, as the BG makers actually hired well-known voiceover artists and gave them what're mostly considered to be quite good scripts, but so be it...

Really? Maybe we played different games. I am thinking of lines such as the following, which one endures countless times in the course of the game:
"Nature's SERVANT awaits!"
"Somethin' on your mind?"
"STOP TOUCHING ME!"
They sound to me like the developers gave the microphone to their kid brothers and sisters.
Plenty of games have great archers. Neverwinter Nights and Titan Quest both have some overpowered archer builds. In Daggerfall you can get to the point where 1 arrow kills just about anyone as well.

Hammerfall: I love RPGs. There are so many poorly reviewed ones that I love too. But to say Two Worlds is "good" is really not fair to the customer who is going by the GoG community's opinion on whether to buy the game.
This game is terrible to mediocre. (depending on the person's tolerance). Nothing about this game is "good". Bad voice acting, terrible story, lack atmosphere, uninspired and unoriginal quests, lack of difficulty and a ton of other issues make this game pretty bad. If you are seriously desperate to run around in a fairly nice looking and varied world and just mindlessly kill stuff then buy the game. But for everybody else, spend your time elsewhere.
I see it like this. Open world RPGs and even RPGs in general are sometimes hard to come by in a world full of shooters and action games so us RPG lovers sometimes take whatever we can get our hands on and force ourselves to enjoy it all. But if there were the amount of RPGs that there are FPS games then this game would be the Daikatana of RPGs. (Minus all the drama and hype of Daikatana :P)

I know you've already clarified on this, but I'm quoting because I'd like to directly comment on a few of your statements.
I don't see how people stating that they think it is a good game is any less "fair" to the readers than you telling them it is mediocre or terrible. Frankly, if anybody is relying solely on the opinions in user comments and reviews to decide whether to buy a game or not, then it's their very own fault if they end up making the wrong decision. Apart from judging the objective quality of the game (technical execution, etc.) the only thing a commenter/reviewer can do is give their opinion and give well-founded reasons on why they have them. Readers will have to decide for themselves what they are looking for in a game and whether it might suit their tastes. Any game that finds its audience is "good", and Two Worlds in particular has a sizeable community of people who truly enjoy the game. (If it didn't, I don't think they would have made a sequel).
As for your specific points of criticism: I can't comment on the voice acting because I played the German version, where it was okay. I'd sure appreciate if GOG would start making use of their "Languages available" field one day, I don't think I've ever seen a multi-language game release here yet. If the acting is really so terrible, people who understand German (or one of the other languages the game has been released in) should be given the choice. The story and quests are not really original, I said that much in my own review, but I don't think that makes them terrible (I couldn't remember any Action-RPG from the top of my head that had an interesting story). And I can't see where you would find a lack of atmosphere, to me the excellent atmosphere was what made the game memorable. And for the most part the game is as difficult as you want it to be. The focus is, after all, on exploration.
So you are less into the "very freeform" kind of RPGs that make you choose your own game and don't offer much in the way of a clear goal. That's a valid and justified point-of-view, but so are those of the people who loved the game. Both sides have right and reason to state their opinion. The only important thing is to back up your judgements with clear reasons so people can make up their own mind.

delboy2k10: Buy if you have a curiosity or have an RPG fetish. However please remember you can get this bargain bin elsewhere - Sorry GOG but you can quite easily :-(

Generally I've found the bargain bin retail copies of games will be about 5 bucks. To me, getting the game without the DRM saddled to it is worth the extra few bucks. I'll probably pick this one up.
As to those lamenting this game is too new: who cares? It's another game in GOG's catalogue and in no way impacts anything else. I say great. Keep 'em coming.
"This pack contains the original Two Worlds along with two expansions: Tainted Blood and Curse of Souls" <- Please add the version number there, in the gamecard.
Nice, GOG. I'll buy it just because it is open-world, comes drm-free, pre-patched and with the two "expansions".
Now, we need Gothic 3 fully patched on GOG. ;)

MichaelFurlong: Hmmm, I am not really into These massive open RPGs ( I tend to get bored). However I have been meaning to give one a try, what should I go for:
Oblivion
Two worlds
Risen
Gothic
Any others worth mentioning?

ArcaniA: Gothic 4,
Two Worlds 2,
both coming out this year.
I guess you should play Morrowind/Oblivion first, before getting your ass kicked in the other mentioned games.

Starkrun: Oblivion GoTY edition if you like fantasy and love the ability to do what you want
...
Thats all i can recommend looking into. Vikings: Battle for Asgard was amazingly fun. Short as games go unless you are an explorer and take your time... i loved it though, wonderful buy.

I'm willing to play Spartan: Total Warrior and Viking: Battle for Asgard, too bad they are for consoles only.

Anamon: As others have said, "old" is a relative term. I think it's all about what benefit a GOG release offers - especially in the games business where games disappear from shelves 3-6 months after release, and good luck finding an original copy of a 2 year-old game. This is not movies or music or books, where publishers actually care that their back catalogue remains available.
...
Objecively bad movies often become cult hits. As long as the technical execution and production quality is fine, you will find people who like it.

Totally agreed with those two sentences.
I'm not saying that Two Worlds is excellent, I've never played it but I will. Just agreeing that some 2,3,4,5 year old games are already hard to find and aren't available on digital stores. So finding such game on GOG and drm-free, is a bonus for the gamer.
When... When game publishers will wake up?

Hammerfall, you're cool.
Because of all the griping of what belongs on this site and doesn't (I wish every game ever made would be archived here; crap or not), I'm going to buy this right now. The negative comments have actually sold me.

Well, when the NPC shoot at you, they're damn good. I've tried to answer them back and found the archery system interesting but not really easy to deal with... I quickly abandoned it for the old-but-efficient "run, scream and slash" method. ^_^

Does it have the DRM removed? If not, it's probably not worth it, unless you're only going to install once/don't mind begging on their forums for activations back in the event you run out.
