What is this world coming to when skipping school is a viable response to having someone make fun of your t-shirt?

She could have taken it in the humorous way it was most likely intended, or she could have stood up for herself and told the teacher to F off. That would have made it more interesting.

But no, in this atmosphere of "it takes a village" (to raise an idiot), the obvious answer was to quit going to school until someone addressed the fact that her feelings were hurt. Way to get your fifteen minutes. Coddled much?
No. The teacher should take a baseball bat to the face and never teach again.

Teachers who make fun of a student for whatever reason should be unemployed.

Being made fun of publicly by a teacher is the worst form of school bullying... And it encourages the bullying from other students, makes a child an easy victim served on a silver plate.

Teachers should never make fun of students, no matter what. They are figures of authority and the power relations are to skewed, and in most cases the students are not fully developed adults yet with experience and knowledge on how to handle a situation. The teacher should have known better.
That student should've punched her teacher.

And why the fuck didn't the teacher read the "apology" letter herself?

"I'm for Mitt Romney because he's against abortion."

Yes, fuck everything else like the fact that he'll probably end up plunging the lower earners even further into poverty and that he'll more than likely fan up the Middle East conflict all over again. He's against abortion! He needs to go to the White House NOW!

Jesus H. I can halfway understand Republicans who have a genuine belief in small government and a free market economy - as much as I respectfully disagree - but many of the reasons I hear from people voting GOP are just moronic to say the least.

But yeah, the teacher was indeed out of line. Politics have no place in the classroom. The girl didn't understand this - the teacher should have known better.

What I'm curious about is why wear such a t-shirt when you can't even vote? Only a small percentage of high school students can, and most of them don't even care.

No - don't just slide over this, THINK about it. Is there anyone in the world FOR abortion ?
Like - supporting it as a pass-time for thrill-seekers or something ?
That's like being "for" war - most non-psychopaths (nowadays) would either oppose it entirely or allow for exceptions given certain desperate situations. Being "against" is common sense.

Vestin: Being "against" is common sense.
You'd like to think so. Unfortunately there are elements of the GOP electorate out there that actually seem to think that anyone who's a Democrat actively encourages people to kill their babies or sees abortions as just another contraceptive.

She's decided who she would theoretically vote for, tried to drag the issue into school, and yet doesn't understand the majority of what she'd be voting for. It's the single-issue voters that really go against my grain. It's like the NPD voters in Germany and BNP voters in the UK that only vote those parties because of some perceived threat by immigrants.

I do agree that it was dumb of the teacher to say it, but my point really is that people are just too fucking sensitive these days.

Sure, hit him with a baseball bat; that's an appropriate response. See where that gets you. :-)

nope, it means that there are people in positions they should not be in...

Wait, what? Why is it even permitted for high school students to wear these kind of t-shirts? Politics and religion should be kept out of schools as much as possible.

This. A teacher cannot be politically unbiased. It is impossible. I've seen teachers try to encourage political debates among schoolkids before, and it is an exercise in pointlessness that ends up in nothing more than a mud-slinging contest between two groups that don't understand shit about the topics at hand.

I actually witnessed one situation like this in the UK a couple of years back. This farcical situation ended up with some of the students gobbing off about how immigrants were stealing people's jobs and shouting off racist abuse at the Muslims in the class. The teacher was suspended, but the board of governors reinstated the teacher with no finding of wrongdoing.

I've not spoken to her in a while, but I'm guessing that she's left politics out of the classroom now.

One sided article with virtually no information given and everybody is already jumping the predetermined bandwagon (which was that the teacher was evil).

Gotta love the internet.
