okay as I look around I am getting start to get interested in Pen and Paper gaming, more specifically, Call of Cthulhu. The only hard part about this is, well, I need to find an online group to play it with. (I don't think people play a lot of Pen and Paper games in my town) Anyways anyone know where there are any online groups currently?
Don't know about any online groups. The only piece of advice I can give you is, don't play it in the middle of the night in a one-room wooden cabin in the middle of a dark forest. I speak from experience ;-)
I was on a scouting trip with my patrol. We were about 8 guys, ages 13-15, in a one-room wooden cabin in the middle of a forest. In the evening we started playing Call of Cthulhu. After a couple of hours, our group in the game split up. Since one group obviously couldn't know what the other group was doing, that meant half of us had to go outside until we met up again. That was... creepy ;-)
We huddled outside there, listening to twigs snapping out in the woods, seeing strange shadows moving between the trees, etc. It's amazing what your imagination can conjure up in such a situation.
How is it a P&P game if it's online?
There were a number of Call of Cthulhu PBeM games like this one :

Don't know if any of them are still active.

Easier to call it that rather than ASCII Character Set & HTML Document?

You shouldn't jump to conclusions that quickly, for all we know he could be using Unicode.
Remember that thread where we tried to sort an online D&D game?
There were several types of online equivalents to PnP there.
Good times!

Remember how everyone jumped at the chance and in the end there was only 3 people playing and it only lasted 2 turns?
With online Roleplaying, it really falls into two categories.
Play by Email/Post/Whatever, and using stuff like OpenRPG (tabletop software) or using IRC.
The former tends to lend itself to less combat-heavy adventures. Which can be good. But my complaint comes with how little character interaction you get.
Players tend to write very long monologues and think through every aspect of what they are doing. That sounds like a good idea, until you realize that it is a lot harder to have a meaningful dialogue when people type paragraphs at a time.
Plus, combat itself is hell. Imagine something as simple as a 6 round battle with 4 players and a GM. Killing rats can take a month :p
The other is the more live sessions. Things like IRC or OpenRPG. These are much closer to the "real thing", but are greatly flawed in that you need a REALLY good GM. It is one thing to improvise by sketching a quick map on graph paper. Much harder when you need to sketch with a computer (try and draw something with a mouse, and then understand why this is problematic :p).

Check out www.penandpapergames.com for gamers in your area. I'm in 2 D&D4e games & 1 HackMaster game, all thanks to that website. Its 100% free to join & use, although they do accept donations. Very friendly community with over 13,000 members.

I remember jumping at the chance, but not being told there was an actual game on... unless it was you folks from the other side of the planet.
On the other hand, half of us moved onto Dawn of War and that worked well...
