Since I'm on the roll with starting threads, I shall make this one now.

Do you know any games where you, the player, can get your own home/house/castle/brothel/manor? Also, does any online role-playing game have player housing?

Skyrim has houses, Morrowind and probably Oblivion. Also Fable-series has player housing. What else?
Mass Effect games allowed you to have your own cabin if I remember correctly.
KoA, you get some houses here and there (a bit like Elder scrolls games, but more like rewards) The big castle in Dead Keel is nice.

LotRO - you can buy a house there and equip it with trophies you get from mobs. and invite a friend over.

edit - does it strike anyone else how close Friend and Fiend is in English?

reminds me of the saying "you can always loose a good friend, a good enemy is for life"

Baldur's Gate 2 - depends on class
Neverwinter Nights 2 - stronghold
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines - apartment
Fallout 3 and New Vegas - some vacant houses but you also get your own

Tibia comes to mind. That game was kind of famous because it was all about having the biggest house and the shiniest loot to show for it, kind of like real life sadly enough. I actually bought one and I remember how awesome it was. It has a great system where you can invite people and kick them out.
Final Fantasy XI has had player housing but it wasn't the visible kind. Final Fantasy XIV is going to have player housing after the first major patch (2.0 is re-release and 2.1 is first major patch). I have not played other MMO's but from personal experience, that is what I know of for player housing aside from what has been mentioned.
Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim all allow you to buy houses and Daggerfall also allows you to buy ships I think.

Soul Blazer and Dark Cloud allow you to free and build/restore villages.

Divinity II has a floating fortress I think
As does Two Worlds II: Pirates of the Flying Fortress I think.

If it weren't so late my brain would probably be able to name more titles.
erm....does Minecraft count? :P
Gothic; does your own shed count?

Also the GTA games obviously.

Wildstar has houses... in the sky. People can visit you there, you can also benefit from putting all sorts of items and structures there.

You can design your own house in Furcadia.
Since you also mentioned online roleplaying, I'll say Everquest 2 has the best player housing there is. Carpentry is one of the professions and they can make anything for the house. It is seriously fantastic. You start out with a studio but you can have anything from a normal house to a mansion to a boathouse, I think even an airship.
I've played quite a few online games and have never found the quality of housing as there is in EQ2. Its probably a min-game in itself. Players hire themselves out as interior decorators and go to town with decorating. If I ever play another online mmo again, this is one feature I'll *need* to have to stay interested longterm.

I was actually going to enter your screenshot contest with some of my EQ2 pictures but they're on another hard drive and I'm not quite sure where it is atm :).

One caveat though about EQ2 since I haven't played in a few years. And SOE had a bunch of layoffs recently and EQ2 was hit hard on the dev team. EQ1 is still going strong and they want to keep EQ2 going too but with EQ3 around the corner in a year or so, not sure how many games they can run.

The below links/threads are pretty image heavy fyi...

Since Minecraft was mentioned, I'll also mention 7 Days to Die where you currently have to build your own house because all the buildings seem to have zombie spawners in them.
At least, the last time I played.
Mabinogi: Fantasy Life is a MMORPG with player housing.
Star Wars Galaxies had player housing (fully visible in the game world, groups of players even built whole towns with a host of facilities). Though the servers are no longer online, I'm quite sure there are private servers available. And I'd bet some of the less scrupulous retailers still sell the game.
