Warning: May contain crystal skulls!

La Mulana, a challenging free-form platformer in ancient Mayan ruins, is now available on GOG.com for only $9.99. That's 33% off the regular price until Thursday, October 11 at 10:59 AM GMT.

The ancient Mayan city of La-Mulana is said to hold innumerous secrets. The mysterious tribe guarding it from the outside world claims that the ancient knowledge locked within the forgotten tombs holds the key to understanding the purpose and origin of life itself. A daring young archeologist by the name of Lameza Kosugi--an Indiana Jones lookalike with Japanese roots--takes on the quest to unravel the mystery of the foreboding ruins. With his trusty whip (standard archeology-issue) and a vintage "Mobile Super X" laptop, he ventures into the unknown. Some say that he might be the chosen one. Otherwise the tribe of protectors wouldn't let him go anywhere near the ruins. True question remains: does he really have what it takes to face the treacherous traps, menacing monsters, and gigantic guardians of La-Mulana?

The original low-res version of La Mulana met with critical acclaim as one of the most difficult and elaborate indie platformers of the 2000s. Its high-res remake delivers the same challenge and scale but this time with colorful pixel-art graphics your eyes can feast upon. Gamers worldwide fell in love with La-Mulana's free-form archeological action/exploration gameplay. Now it's your turn to put on an adventurer's hat, grab that handy whip, and set off for the huge Mayan ruins, that hold the secret of the origin of life on Earth. Don't miss out on one of the greatest challenges for the fans of platformer genre!

Search every corner of the ancient ruins, reach seemingly unreachable platforms, and defeat many fearsome guardians to uncover the secret of La Mulana, for the launch promo price of only $9.99!
Only release today? Me sad now. :(
Passing . Not my type of game .

DPB: It's probably the longest 2d platformer ever made, and a very challenging one too. It can take as much as 30 hours to complete, it has a huge interconnected world filled with secrets. The soundtrack is great too.
Does it get dull or repetitive? What do you spend most of the game doing? What games can be compared to this?

Never.

Been wanting to get this, but haven't because of Playism. Will do so now. Ta

I wouldn't put the latter two anywhere near Cave Story; tried the demo and it was a game about talking with poorly drawn dogs. Super metroid and Castlaviania SotN dropped you right into the game and that was it. I'm going to wait and see if La Mulana is like a classic Metroid or one of those modern indy imposters that people mistake for old-school just because of low resolution graphics.

"Never" is not a valid answer to that question.

It's a very good game. I already bought it from Playism-Games, where it was exclusively released. The game is an 2D Action RPG like Metroid, Cave Story, Unepic etc. and extremely challenging (you die a lot). It has an open world gameplay filled with combat and puzzles. The original version of the game was released some years ago with japanese language, but this version on GOG is a polished version with better graphics and english translation released this year. It's worth every cent.

Demo? The game is freeware. Anyway, Cave Story isn't 100% Metroidvania but you quite clearly didn't play very far if you think the game is about talking.

As I already said this is an improved version of the original. Only the old original version is freeware. But the old version has no higher resolutions, improved graphics, english language, new balaced enemies and so on.

I was replying to HiPhish who was talking about Cave Story. You should get an avatar, you're confusing yourself with other people who don't have avatars!
