Multiplayer.

Co-op.

Deluxe edition already for pre-order.

You know it's by EA. Yes it is a SimCity game. I'm interested in this newfangled engine they are using for it, although no real footage is shown in the trailer.

EDIT: This game makes me think about the publishers' role and how developers are trying to go indie, stay away from the big publishers, see Will Wright going Stupid Fun Club, see Peter Molyneux going 22Cans.

What's so special about this? What was wrong with every other SimCity ever made?
Despite being a PC only gamer for almost 20 years the only Sim City I have ever really played and enjoyed was the SNES one. That game was awesome! I bought Sim City 4 once in a box and again digitally but I have never really played it. Silly me I guess.

I'll look forward to reading about this one but would only buy if it gets a very positive reception.
Looks good from the trailer. But EA will torture and kill it just like Ubisoft did with Anno 2070. What use is a good game in this day and age if the publisher is a total cuntbucket? Unfortunately the answer is 'no use at all'.
I practically grew up on SimCity and SimCity 2000. The subsequent games fell short of expectations in every review I read, and so I never bought them. Maybe I'll grab one if it's released on GOG.com.
The splendor, the beauty.

irawesome: SimCity 5 you say!? If they do release this i shall put money on that game. I hope that you can make custom airports instead of putting down plates and waiting an awful lot.
I'm sure they'll offer airports in a DLC, it being EA and all

I should have posted this in this thread

Same here. The SNES version of Sim City just managed to hit some form of sweet spot for me. The rest are too complex and with too much to do to be relaxing, yet they don't offer the same kind of depth that I require in order to really get hooked. It was simple and elegant, and did not require a whole lot of attention, which made it great to just have on in the background while doing something else, and periodically check on the city so that Bowser had not eaten it.

irawesome: 80 euros for Deluxe!?!? EA, you greedy pieces of crap. What is that in $? 150$!?
According to EA's understanding of currency conversion it's actually $80.

irawesome: Then EA has to be some kind of idiot company.
More likely they just treat their Euro-paying customers like idiots.
Looks like PC only for once :).
EA was better than Activision at one point... then reverted again to bad old same EA
Posted a thread earlier here:

The Simcity games are some of my favourite games of all time, and their emphasis on the friends and social aspect is worrying me. I don't care about playing with friends or whatever multiplayer crap. Also my friends don't play Simcity type games. I just want a deep singleplayer Simcity game with BATs(custom user made buildings and lots). CitiesXL tried the multiplayer crap earlier and failed miserably. EA is dumb as a mule to try it now.

I'll wait for more previews and articles on it before I buy it even though it's by Maxis.
its 100 usd and 90 for sc5 in australia.

which equals to regular price for new game in shops here.

I thought Simcity was one of the more relaxing games I've played, as in things can be done as your own pace, as long as you have a positive cashflow. What I loved about Simcity was making a city that I want, if I want a laidback suburban residential city I could do it, if I wanted to make a sprawling dense city like New York I could do it. Another good thing is that if you wanted a dense city, you don't just plop in buildings, you need to make it grow like caring for a plant and that requires effort, high education, high land values, low pollution, good healthcare etc. That's the essential charm for me.
Some of my fondest memories of Simcity was actually trying to re-create Sydney in Simcity 3000 with actual maps and photos from travel books borrowed from the library. I actually finished. Another would be making custom buildings for Simcity 4.
