My personal WTF of the day comes courtesy of EA. They have just launched a new version of Tetris for iOS that comes with the ability to become a member of the T-Club, which offers you "exclusive access to new mobile challenges and content."

Membership costs $2.99 per month or $30 per year.

I must say that this looks like a sound investment to me.

It's a totally revolutionary new version. "The One Touch feature in this new Tetris game is ground-breaking and it's the type of inventiveness we have been waiting for. It's the difference between driving a stick shift and an automatic," said Henk Rogers, Managing Director of The Tetris Company.

I haven't played Tetris since my I got my old Gameboy a decade and a half ago, but I fail to see what sort of new content they could add to it... Reskinned blocks? Different game modes? Minecraft mode?!

I just read an article about this from Giantbomb. Trying to decide if it is worth it. It's so tempting, n stuff.

So, it's "touch the screen to win". At the risk of offending a lot of people, I have to say I understand why this is made for IOS.

They should have made it an FPS.

I noticed this a few days ago and I can't figure out what the $30/year is actually for. I still have the previous iOS Tetris (and Tris (and Nescaline)) and I tend to feel recent modifications to the core gameplay don't do the experience any favours so I probably won't update.

Just wait until all games are a subscription, no matter what style of game they are. Hell, just wait for Windows to be a subscription.

The sub part is probably so you can use social features to "beat your friends", you'd be surprised how much the casual crowd gets cracked out on that kind of thing.
