I have tried almost the whole rpg side of the catalogue here on good old games. Ive gotten recommendations from users and I really just can't play any of the games past a quarter as I find them stupid.

I find that usually what will happen is that there will be some things I like about the game, but other things that just bring the games down. Most of the problems I have with the good old game rpgs is that they are either not very fun or Ive seen better elsewhere. Usually when I play a game with that in mind, it makes me want to go play the other game I already completed.

I will give some credit where its due, a few games I already have played and completed, they are-Arcanum, BG1, BG2.

But other than that I don't know. Im starting to think they should focus on getting some more recent title rpgs on here (that run on most comps) instead of the old ones.

Does anyone else think they need some new rpg titles?

Buy Sacrifice. Not an RPG, but certainly a game that doesn't get boring. Also, check out Harbinger on GG, it's a Sci-fi hack'n slash RPG, DRM-free and costs just 5 euros.

Too picky, the catalog here contains most of the good RPGs from the golden Infinity Engine days and a bit beyond. Try some of the more niche RPGs like Soulbringer or Nox.
YMMV
I get what you mean, I find it extraordinarily difficult to play RPGs older than the Infinity Engine. Older RPGs are generally rough in gameplay and confusing in structure and layout. If you can get over that, or if it doesn't bother you, than old RPGs are certainly a good option, but if you can't, it's probably just better to get a more recent one.

Edit: What I'm saying is, you're being picky, but picky with good reason.

I know I'm a bit picky, but sometimes my pickiness has nothing to do with it.

Take the Geneforge series for example. I like the characters, the story, the game, but the difficulty is insane even on normal. The 1st 3 games are broken and you can't play the game as what you want. You are forced to play as a shaper or a agent. That sucks though because I should not have as tough a time if I choose to use a specific class. The 1st 3 gene forge games are useless and you won't make it past the demo. Even all the moderators tell me to start with the 4th game. But isn't that lame? I don't want to miss out on story just because the maker did a shit job with the game.

Nirth: And Inquisitor and Planescape: Torment!
Inquisitor is broken and I have it, I got it from the company 3 years after it was supposed to be out. I tried the game, its useless and like the reviews they wrote on rpgwatch, the game is a joke.

As for planescape torment, I keep on saying Im going to get into that, I just kind of get sidetracked. One of the problems with that situation is that I am a fighter and I want to play the game with JUST me and morte, allowing him to take hits and me to finish them with his litany of curses. I was going to go a 2 man team, but someone from gamefaqs said you won't be able to do it.

Then use cheats/trainer to easen the burden? While I prefer not to use cheat it's annoying that something as trivial as lame difficulty design hinders you from enjoying other parts of the games.

I would do that, but Im of the opinion that if I can't play the game without ridiculous difficulty on normal, then the game isn't worth my time.
Thats actually a good idea, Nirth.

Planescape torment that you mentioned.

Have you or anyone completed it before? I would like to play the game but want to use just a fighter and morte. Would that work or is the game unplayable?

I just HAD to use a trainer with The Last Remnant. Ridiculous leveling system and difficulty.

One of the things that sets Torment apart is the unusual characters; I think a solo run would be absolutely wretched. That being said, I see absolutely no reason why you couldn't if you wanted to; there are exactly three fights in the game that you can't avoid, and you can grind for experience in the undercity.

I completed it in April. I'm not sure as some quests will involve other characters so it might limit your experience (but I do think it's possible). If it will hinder in combat is a debatable question as well but considering you share less experience your characters will level up faster so it might work but you will have less crowd control and might be tough later on in the game. I would certianly try it if it's your cup of tee to play that way as I understand they creators made PST to work (more or less) as oneself intends to play it.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I haven't played that specific game I think but I've seen some videos. I recently played through Oni, old fighting, adventure game from 2001 and while I enjoy almost everything in the game the enemies just became too annoying in the end so I actually used cheats for first time in a single player game since 2 or 3 years back. It was actually more fun than I expected. :D

Well I soloed bg1 and bg2, so I might have a small advantage.

It is not "that" hard. I beat the game on normal on my first attempt. Granted, I played as a shaper, and I did find some parts to be challenging, but if you get your behind kicked in one area, just go to another one. Unless you have placed your skillpoints in a very sub-optimal way, you should be able to beat the game.
Oh, and don't worry about your creatures dying, you can always summon new ones.

That is a very odd way of limiting yourself. Why would you want to just play with Morte? You are missing out on a lot of content that way! One of the great joys of Planescape is getting to know the characters, all of which has something interesting to add.
But I guess it would be possible to beat it with minimal use of the other characters. If you play smart, you can avoid almost all combat, though it will require you to place your stat-points in a way that is not optimal for a fighter (but then again, you are really stepping outside of the boundaries of how the designers intended you to approach the game, so that is to be expected).

I don't quite understand the question? You need to beat three fights to win the game (four if you don't get either [I think] your Wisdom or Int up high enough). The game doesn't scale, so if you're willing to spend enough time grinding for experience, your two person team of you and Mort should be able to beat those fights. Poking around the internet, I find someone who says he beat the game totally solo, without even Mort.

edit: I think a mage would probably work better? You need a high Int to experience a lot of the game, and to avoid at least one major fight, so playing a class with that as your primary skill seems ideal.
