What do think? I have no idea. I trust you guys more than I trust google. :)

I'm guessing Magic The Gathering is in the top 5 today. What about Warhammer Invasion?

Magic is all I know of these days. The Pokemon Trading Card Game used to be super popular but I have no idea where it would rank now.
Live Card Games are the new thing now. They are different from trading card games because every package contains the same cards.

For example, you buy a starter for Netrunner or LOTR and you have a full game. But, you can buy a lot of mini expansions (always containing the same cards) and modify your deck. You don't use all the cards in the package, you build a deck from many other cards.

It's a cool thing, because you may just as well just buy a starter and you have a complete game. You want more? You buy expansions (bigger or smaller) and you never get tired of your game.

Yeah, I remember Pokemon being extremely popular. Never touched that shit though.

Sounds much better than trading card games for your wallet. What are the top 5 most popular Live Card games today?

Man....I remember the days when Yu-Gi-Oh was all the rage :\

Also what I would not give for in RPG in the Magic the Gathering setting.

Shandalar?
I used to like Spellfire..
I was a fan of the Star Wars customizable card game back in the day, but it never really caught on like Magic.
Steam trading cards

hyuk hyuk.

JMich: Shandalar?
I learned to play Magic: the gathering with that game. And with Chaos overlords and Pandemonium 2 coming to GOG, it would make sense for Shandalar to show up on GOG next week.

...

If you wonder about the connection, I had all three on the (pirate) CD Mix 7
Tarot! :P
The department stores by me all sell Magic, and Yu-gi-oh, and nothing much else. I always assumed that Yu-gi-oh would die out pretty fast, but It hasn't. In fact, there are always more Yu-gi-oh cards for sale than Magic. Department stores only cater to the biggest audiences though, and there are not good comic shops near me, so I have no idea what other games would be in the list.

I know Netrunner and Lord of the Rings are pretty popular. Warhammer Invasion is another one.

There are no many of them so far, becauase the term LCG is trademarked by Fantasy Flight Games. I don't know if there are games with similar mechanics and different names. But yeah, they are significantly lighter for your wallet.

But there are so many expansions, if you get hooked up, you will end up spending just as much :P The major difference being, you don't really have to, unless you really like the game and want new cards AND scenarios.

But deck building is very different from tcg. You can actually take the cards from expansions only and have just as playable deck. It's not about buying the same booster over and over to get that one card to improve your deck :P

The newest upcoming (digital) rage will probably be Scrolls from Mojang, it actually looks somewhat neat.

WTF is... Scrolls?

Also

There's also Hex from the creators of the WOW card game which pulled in over 2 million in funding on kickstarter.
