DCT: Umm,how did you come to that conclusion given that Gamestop is losing money and is predicted to go out the same way of Game in the UK did in a few years, while Valve are seemingly swimming in it Scrooge Mcduck style(kinda like this: http://torwars.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Scrooge-McDuck.jpg) and since normally the company that is losing money get's eaten up/taken over by the larger more well off company, I don't get how GS would be able to buy Valve/Steam.

carnival73: GS has a really strong backing from their retail outlets after purchasing Electronic Boutique.

Remember that old Scottish comedian who claimed that there's probably a McD's on the Moon? We've even got a few EB Games/Gamestops here in New Zealand.
Oh, really? http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/170523/Growing_digital_sales_not_enough_to_combat_GameStops_decreasing_profits.php

Well Mickey D's is still doing well Gamestop is withering and dying on the vine, seriously do some research and you will see that Gamestop is hurting and hurting bad, plus I'm sure that giant Lawsuit they had didn't help.

According to that article they aren't losing money at all, they just didn't make as much money as last year. Considering that they make an obscene amount of money from used console games (which is noted in the article, it makes up more than half their income) I wouldn't be worried about them going out of business any time soon. This console generation is practically ANCIENT, too, which has a big impact as well.
Wish The games wizards were still around them and Top-video they sold games brand new and pre-owned instore
It's "uh oh" for gamestop, if the rumor is true that next-gen consoles have anti-used-games protection in place.

Yay. Just what we needed, DRM for consoles because it worked so well for the PC.

"Uh Oh" for the consoles as well - Not many are going to pay a lot for a system that they can only manage to acquire five games for during it's life span because they missed a lot upon release.

Hmm...well, I can't say that they didn't do it to themselves.

And the stupid things that Sony and MS are doing with the console market didn't help them any either.

1995 to 2005 was a pretty good decade for gaming - A lot of variety.

I've ditched all my consoles and handhelds and ran screaming to the PC where gaming is still decent - I've just had to let go of the materialistic "Collector" aspect of gaming.
