Have just started playing Neverwinter Nights again, and started a new character for the excellent Darkness Over Daggerford module.

I've made him a Dragon Monk - took a single level of Sorcerer to meet the pre-requisite, and have since taken alternate levels of Monk and Red Dragon Disciple. So far, I'm having a blast and kicking arse! The Dragon benefits seem to compliment the Monk really well.

I do enjoy trying different characters though (makes it extremely hard for me to ever actually *finish* RPGs!), so what character builds have you guys found to be effective, and more importantly enjoyable?
I played a 1/2 Orc Barbarian/Wizard through that module, which was good fun. Another build I took through it was an Elf Fighter/Rogue and that was great as well.

My favorite build of all though, is probably a Fighter 4/Bard X. You can toss in RDD if you want, but I usually just stick with Bard and Fighter (I make sure I have the 4 FTR levels by level 20 for 4 attacks per round). I love the Bard class in NWN and when you add a touch of FTR to make your character into a heavily armored battle skald... yeah, baby.

Pure barbarian. I like to ignore the weapon focus/specialization feats and simply use the best weapons I can find at any given moment. With barb, the power is in the rage rather than the feats (or lengthy buffing sessions for clerics or hybrids). Sometimes I toss in a level of fighter. Not a min/max power build, but fun for single player stuff.

Also druid. Nice spellbook with a good balance of nukes, heals, buffs, ect. A very strong pet plus summoning potential and even 3/4 bab and shapeshifts for some melee potential as desired. One of the classes I enjoy most.
Many effective builds, but the one I keep coming back to *and enjoy the most*, is 1/3 rogue and 2/3 fighter. Might go shadowdancer or weaponmaster at higher (epic) levels.

Usually using a big honkin' sword or greataxe, but avoiding weapon focus to keep flexibility, with some distraction, those backstabs are brutal. Light armor is usually near enough protection.

Skillpoints are the thing, I love being able to talk and bluff, open locks and traps and maybe even hide a bit (especially if you find boots and cloak of elvenkind). Tumble gives 1 AC for every 5 points, offsetting the light armor somewhat.

The main problem is, you mainly need just about every stat except maybe wisdom, so it'll be a bit unfocused build. Particularly at the beginning, as I like to have plenty of intelligence to begin with and also decent constitution, leaving prescious little for strength, dexterity and charisma. But there'll be magic items for those soon enough...
I'm always a bit afraid to look up "builds"

the "builds" I use are usually flawed in some or many ways and I have to find ways to overcome those flaws, thats kind of what makes the experience for me.
Just to be goofy, I created a Halfling Monk/Druid. Halflings make poor monks because they do less monk melee damage than "tall people". It was not especially... brilliant. But it is a lot of fun having a kung-fu halfling with a badger sidekick! I played through a few hours with him and did ok!
